Netflix’s original movieChoose Loveoffers Cami and the audience various options for how Cami’s life should go. Rather than making a decision for herself, Cami relies on the audience’s interactive decisions to make her choices for her, which pushes the narrative forward. Because there are so many options throughout the film, there are several storylines and endings to choose from for how Cami’s journey plays out. Each different viewing of the movie, assuming the audience makes alternate choices, allows seeing how Cami’s life plays out in different ways, from whether she keeps or quits her job to whether she chooses one of the three main male love interests or decides to go off on her own.

To some degree,Choose Lovecould be looked at as a multiverse story. Cami is the same person, as are those around her. However, her different choices determine the path her life takes, and with sixteen different endings for the movie, there are numerous ways to look at how things pan out for Cami, Paul, Rex, and Jack. There are plenty of television shows and movies that offer love triangles or love squares. However, some highlight the differences in how people’s lives play out.

Netflix Allows Viewers to Choose Love on First Trailer for New Interactive Rom-Com

Netflix gets interactive one more time in the first trailer for Choose Love, a new romantic comedy starring Laura Marano.

Austin and Ally

Cami’s interest in producing music inChoose Loveis mirrored in Laura Marano’s earlier work as Ally Dawson in Disney Channel’sAustin and Ally. Ally Dawson was a quiet and shy songwriter in comparison to Austin’s loud and charismatic performer. Ally refused to sing, and Austin could not write, which made the duo an ideal team. They elevated each other’s skills and helped each other become better.

Eventually, Austin got around to songwriting, while Ally eventually stepped into the spotlight as a performer. Ally’s arc from songwriter behind the scenes to a centric performer is one of the biggest aspects of character growth that appeared in the series, and is a more substantial portrayal of the similar desire Cami has to focus on her strengths in music producing.

Sliding Doors (1998)

Sliding DoorsandLook Both Waysshare the central story of the main character portraying two alternative versions of life. In the case ofSliding Doors, Helen’s life is altered forever by a train ride. LikeChoose Love, Helen’s life is made up of specific details that determine how things will play out. But, whileChoose Loverequires the audience to watch the film multiple times to understand the various endings,Sliding Doorsmakes it easier by offering both looks at the story throughout one viewing.

Laura Marano and Avan Jogia in Choose Love

In its average storytelling, CW’sThe Flashis nothing likeChoose Love. However, there is one specific concept the two stories share. InThe Flash, Barry accidentally creates Flashpoint by altering his past and creating a new timeline where events have drastically changed. The Flashfeatures many time travel elementsin addition to its Multiverseof various alternative versions of the same person, which highlights how different choices can portray a deviation in one person’s future.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Everything Everywhere All at Oncewas not just a story of family, it was a story of the multiverse.Choose Love, to a degree, is a film that portrays various ways things could play out. So, if the viewer looks at each of the film’s endings as an alternative reality rather than just different options for the film to pursue, following it up with a movie that further discusses the multiverse, and one so highly acclaimed for it, would be a solid follow-up.
