After the original28 Days Later was released, the zombie genre was reinvigorated with a second life. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s (at the time) fresh and exciting take on the films would inspire a sequel. Unfortunately, the director and writing duo wouldn’t return for the initial sequel, with a new creative team making28 Weeks Later. Released in 2007, the movie would follow a larger story about the fall of the British Isles and American intervention, eventually leading to another outbreak. The movie will soon be available on a new streaming service to check out before the upcoming28 Years Later.

Starting June 1,28 Weeks Later will be available to stream on Hulu, giving first-time viewers the opportunity to check out the original sequel to28 Days Laterbefore Boyle and Garland’s new trilogy kicks off this summer. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Rowan Joffé, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, E.L. Lavigne, and Jesus Olmo, the film also stars Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, andJeremy Renner. Whereas the first film only had a budget of $8 million,28 Weeks Laterwould have a larger $15 million budget and a completely different style of filmmaking.

‘28 Years Later’ Writer Reveals How the Long-Awaited Horror Sequel Could Have Been Very Different

Alex Garland’s original idea for ‘28 Years Later’ was insane, and we really want to see it.

While the film received mostly positive reviews, it has often been said not to be as innovative as the original film. Still, the film was praised for its tense atmosphere and lead performances, although it would have a more nihilistic and contrived storyline than28 Days Later. With28 Days Lateravailable for purchase digitally after being gone from storefronts for quite some time due to rights issues, fans of the zombie genre will now have

‘28 Years Later’ is a Bleak and Compelling Sequel

Although it has been compared negatively to its predecessor,28 Weeks Laterstill offers plenty to enjoy. One of the movie’s highlights is its incredibly tense opening sequence, which depicts the infected people attacking and chasing after a man named Don. In just a few minutes, the film sets a dreary tone and creates a genuine sense of terror reminiscent of the first film.

Taking place six months after the original film,28 Weeks Laterbears no direct connection to the characters of28 Days Later.Cillian Murphy’s character has long been a point of discussion, especially now thatBoyle has teased the character’s returnin the new28 Years Latertrilogy. Interestingly, there has been no mention of characters from that film being featured in any capacity in Boyle’s upcoming movie.

Another interesting aspect to consider is the bleak ending of28 Weeks Later and whether it will impact the plot of28 Years Later. The next installment will have a significant time jump, so there will likely be no real connections to the film, which is hitting Hulu at the beginning of next month. Now is as good a time as any to check out another exceptional film in the zombie genre, which expands upon the world of28 Days Later, and will get viewers excited for Boyle and Garland’s next chapter in the post-apocalyptic saga.
