Coulson shocked fans in the Season 3 finale ofAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.when he revealed the organization had a new director. Now it has been revealed just who is taking over his former position.Jason O’Mara(Complications,The Good Wife) has joined the series stepping into the role asS.H.I.E.L.D’s new Director, playing a character whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s. Here’s what Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television,Jeph Loeb, had to say in a statement about the casting.
“BringingJasoninto the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularlyCoulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency.Jasonhas both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”
O’Marawill next be seen in the filmJadotville, coming soon to Netflix, in which he starred oppositeJamie Dornan. While this role will mark his debut in theMarvel Cinematic Universe,Jason O’Marais certainly no stranger to comic book properties. He has provided the voice of Batman in a number of DC Universe Animated Movies, such asJustice League: War,Batman vs. Robin,Batman: Bad Bloodand this year’sJustice League vs. Teen Titans.

Marvel’sAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.returns with its Season 4 premiere on Tuesday, September 20 in its new timeslot, 10:00 PM ET on ABC.
