Months after Amber Heard came out on the losing end of her defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp, the embattled actress had garnered some newfound support. PerTMZ, the world-famous feminist Gloria Steinem is among the 130 people to have signed an open letter addressing the online treatment of Heard and her supporters, which they say has been “unprecedented in both vitriol and scale.” The letter also challenges the verdict of the trial, suggesting that jurors were misled by a “misunderstanding of intimate partner and sexual violence and how survivors respond to it.”
“We condemn the public shaming ofAmber Heardand join in support of her,” the letter reads in part. “We support the ability of all to report intimate partner and sexual violence free of harassment and intimidation.”
Those signing the letter also insinuate that the backlash against Heard is not because of the trial, but rather something that’s been “fueled by disinformation, misogyny, biphobia, and a monetized social media environment where a woman’s allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault were mocked for entertainment.”
Others that have signed the letter along with Steinem include filmmaker Amy Ziering, author Leslie Morgan Steiner, Victim Focus CEO Dr. Jessica Taylor, DomesticShelters.org Editor-in-Chief Amanda Kippert, women’s rights activist Lindsey Boylan, and many, many others. Some organizations offering support include Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, Futures Without Violence, The National Organization for Women, Women’s March Action, and Women’s Equal Justice Project.

Amber Heard’s Career Has Nosedived While Johnny Depp’s Gets Back on Track
While there are no apparent plans to remove Amber Heard’s scenes as Mera fromAquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it’s fair to say that her career has taken a major hit as a result of the defamation trial. Other thanAquaman 2, which was already filmed, there are no upcoming movies featuring the actress. She has been living abroad and keeping a fairly low profile, though there have been reports of her signing a deal towrite a tell-all bookabout her relationship with Johnny Depp.
Things are a bit different with Depp, as the trial verdict has vindicated the actor in the eyes of many. He has since appeared at the MTV VMAs and popped up on Rihanna’sSavage x Fentyshow. He is also working on a film that will feature him in a starring role, the French movieJeanne du Barry. Depp has also been making new music and announced that he will go back on tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires, in 2023.
According to the jury, Heard owes Depp $10.35 million in damages while Depp owes Heard $2 million. Both judgmentshave been appealedas the legal battle continues on.
