‘The Last Frontier’ Director Talks Creative Shift to Making Television
Extraction’s Sam Hargrave directed the first three episodes ofThe Last Frontier. No stranger to the action streaming genre, the filmmaker still had to shift his mindset a bit when heading intothe Apple TV+ series. In 2023, Hargrave revealed to Collider that he was attached toThe Last Frontieras a director and executive producer. The Netflix alum discussed moving from a movie budget to a television one, and the inherent difficulties of bringing the action to life under that constraint. Viewers should still expect a wild opening episode, at the very least.
“I know what you’re talking about because you’re talking about reality here. There’s usually less time and less money crafting a TV show than there is a feature. The time we’re gonna have to do the pilot episode, which has a bunch of crazy stuff, is gonna be like a quarter of what we had forExtraction. So part of it is gonna be shifting my – not shifting styles because excellence is something that I want to strive for no matter what I’m doing, but I am gonna have to be present in the reality of there’s less time, less money. So you gotta figure out a way to do something exciting with less time and less money.”
It’s too early to tell ifThe Last Frontierwill live up to its premise, but its impressive cast and crew is more than enough to get us excited about its October 10 premiere.
