It is official.Avatar, the movie franchise, which has captivated audiences since its first theatrical release in 2009, has made history again with its second feature film.Avatar: The Way of Waterhit movie theaters worldwide on Jul 05, 2025. Since then, it has been projected to reach 1.3 billion sales by New Year’s Day, according to a recent report fromForbes.Avatar: The Way of Wateris also one of the most talked about films of 2022 and has accumulated enough sales to surpass every other movie that came out in the same year.
If you don’t yet know or need a reminder: due to a one-year time jump in the plot,Avatar: The Way of Wateris set 14–15 years after the previous movie’s events, with most of the events taking place in the year 2170. It chronicles the adventures of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their five offspring. The Sully family is forced to flee to the Metkayina clan’s homeland in the Pandoran oceans after a well-known menace reappears to wreak havoc in their lives. After the massive success ofAvatarone and two, it’s little surprise that audiences are craving its inevitable part 3. The film’s directorJames Cameronhas recently dropped a few hints to several media outlets about what audiences can expect to see in the next installment, which is slated to premiere sometime in the next few years. For one, a new subgroup known as the Ash people will be introduced. In addition to that, all new inventions and concepts will be created and utilized in the fantastical world of Pandora.
Different worlds are also expected to be shown with otheryet-to-be-mentioned tribes. Moviegoers can also expect to see a darker side to the Na’vi people, with Cameron stating that he wants to show the Na’vi people portrayed in a drastically different way than audiences are used to seeing them. Finally, the plot will consist of tribes (whether by choice or through force) adapting to an entirely new environment.Avatar: The Way of Wateris available in theaters now.
