During a press event in October 2014, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige helped unveiled the entire Marvel Phase 3 slate, which included the two-partAvengers sequelentitledInfinity War - Part 1(June 06, 2025) andInfinity War - Part 2(June 01, 2025). Back in July, it was confirmed that “Part 1” will now be known asAvengers: Infinity War, with its follow-up currently untitled, although the release date is still intact. Marvel Studios presidentKevin Feigerevealed in a recent interview that there is a good reason why the titles changed. Here’s what he had to say below.
“There’s a reason we have publicly called the first oneInfinity Warand the second one ‘Untitled,’ because the movies we were developing were not - certainly there’s a connection, there are with all our movies - but it’s not a first part and a second part. It’s a whole movie and a whole story, and then a whole movie and a whole story. That’s about all I can say. It’s certainly inspired by everything that has come before and everything that is hinted at before.”
Production is slated to begin on both movies next month, with a back-to-back shoot that is believed to span roughly nine months, and has been rumored to cost upwards of $1 billion. DirectorsAnthony RussoandJoe Russohave famously teased that both movies will feature a whopping 67 characters, although they have backed away from that specific number since then.Kevin Feigeteased in his interview withIGNthat the movie will be set in several different locations with the entire MCU coming together.
“We will be intercutting a lot of stories in that movie in a lot of different locales, as it sort of is in the Avengers movies as well; who is facing off against who. In this movie, it’s going to be fun to mix that up. One of the things that’s great about the Infinity Gauntlet is everybody tried to go up againstThanoswhether they were god-like powers or not, because that’s what Avengers do. The fun about those two movies that we’re doing essentially at the same time is everybody’s there.”
There has previously been talk that both of these movies will feature every previously established character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far, but it has yet to be confirmed if this means characters from the TV side of the MCU will be joining the fight. When asked if “everybody” meant that heroes such asThe Defendersand characters fromAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.will be joining the fight,Kevin Feigewould only state, “Spoilers!” It’s worth noting that, earlier this year, the Russo Brothers hinted that it’s “possible” thatThe Defendersand other TV characters could surface inInfinity War. HopefullyKevin Feigeand Marvel will release a full cast list when production starts next month, so we know who will be showing up to fight the Mad Titan Thanos inAvengers: Infinity War.
