Earlier this month, box office analysts predicted that Warner Bros.‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicecould have a big opening weekend when it hits theaters on March 25, with a domestic tally anywhere between $120 million and $140 million, with a global total that ranges between $300 million and $340 million. Of course, we won’t know how it fares in theaters for two more weeks, but today,Deadlinehas a new report which reveals the superhero adventure is already outselling blockbusters likeDeadpool,Furious 7andMarvel’s The Avengersin advanced ticket sales. One source claimed that early ticket sales are currently somewhere between $20 million and $25 million, which could mean that the opening weekend is even bigger than projected.
BeforeStar Wars: The Force Awakensshattered the advance ticket sales record with $50 million, just a few days after tickets went on sale, Warner Bros.‘The Dark Knight Risesheld the all-time record with $25 million, ahead of its $160.7 million opening weekend.Deadpoolopened with $132.4 million last month, debuting much higher than expectations for anR-ratedmovie. However, the other moviesBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceis outselling,Furious 7($147.1 million) andMarvel’s The Avengers($207.4 million), had higher opening weekends than is being projected forBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The tracking company Movio, which monitorsbox officetrends and analyzes profiles of ticket purchasers, have compared fans who have bought tickets forBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceto the advanced ticket buyers ofJurassic World. Last summer, Universal’sJurassic WorldbrokeMarvel’s The Avengers’ opening weekend record with $208.8 million, although that mark was later bested byStar Wars: The Force Awakens’ debut of $247.9 million. “As expected,Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceis anticipated by the fan male audience. The audience profile is 78% male, massively over indexing between age 14-49. This is your avid opening weekend audience with some 70% attending films during opening week, spending 3.2 times more than the typical US moviegoer.”
The company’s analysis also found that 99% of ticket buyers have purchased seats for opening weekend screenings, with 57% buying Thursday night tickets and 22% on Friday. The average age for a Thursday night ticket purchaser is 30.3 years old versusJurassic World’s average opening night consumer age of 30.6 years old. Movio’s analysis claims that 82% of the Thursday night audience will be male, compared toJurassic World’s Thursday night percentage of 64% male.
