Dave Bautista has responded to all of those fan requests for him to play Bane in the DCEU, and he’s down to take onThe Batman. Bautista got his start as a professional wrestler, but in the past handful of years, he’s been carving out quite the career as a movie star, which really kicked off with his role as Drax inGuardians of the Galaxy. Now, he’s expressing interest in dipping his toes into the DC universe as well. And honestly, this isn’t that unrealistic. Could we really see him duking it out with Robert Pattinson’s Batman one day?
For starters,Dave Bautistahas been a fan-favorite for Bane, a classic Batman villain, for some time. Recently, a fan took to Twitter to declare his support for the idea after watching a YouTube video that suggested this particular casting choice. Bautista got wind of the tweet and responded with two very simple, yet very declarative words.
“I accept!”
James Gunn was, at one point, fired from directingGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This did not sit well with Dave Bautista, who playsDraxin the series and has become very close with Gunn. The filmmaker was then hired by Warner Bros. to helmThe Suicide Squad, and Bautista was absolutely ready to jump ship. That really got people thinking about the actor making a shift. James Gunn has now been re-hired for Guardians 3 and Dave Bautista is now totally happy with Disney and Marvel. That doesn’t rule out the jump though. In fact, it could make it easier to swallow. Marvel doesn’t prevent its actors, contractually, from acting in other comic book movies. And now that he’s on good terms with them, if he did take on a DC role, it wouldn’t come off as an F you or anything like that.
So let’s say Matt Reeves, who is directingThe Batman, which recentlylocked down Robert Pattinson to star, wanted to use Bane. Well, he could easily ring up Bautista, should he desire. If Bautista was right for the part, and if they could work it out with scheduling, itcouldhappen. Bane has been played on the big screen twice in the past. Once in the much-malignedBatman and Robinby Jeep Swenson and, perhaps more memorably, in Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knight Risesby Tom Hardy. Shane West also portrayed the character on Fox’s seriesGotham.
This is all theoretical. But ifBanewere brought into the DC fold, it’s highly likely it would be in a Batman movie. Then again, who knows? The hope is that Matt Reeves will end up making a trilogy, shouldThe Batmando well enough at the box office. With that in mind, there may well be an opportunity to see this happen down the road. The Batmanis currently set to hit theaters on June 19, 2025.
