Potfest, the long-gestating follow-up to Broken Lizard’sBeerfest, iasn’t dead just yet. Released back in 2006,Beerfestwas made by the Broken Lizard comedy team and tells the story of an exclusive beer-games competition. The film ends with a tease for a sequel calledPotfest, but ever since then, the film seems to be stuck in development hell, leading fans to wonder if it will ever see the light of day.

Not all hope is lost, however, as Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar provided an optimistic update on the project in a new interview withNerdtropolis. He says that they’re currently in talks with Warner Bros. about making the film, as the studio own the rights and would need to greenlight the project. With the ball in the studio’s court, it’s not up to the Broken Lizard team to decide, but the group remains hopeful thatPotfestwill in fact get made.

As Chandrasekhar explains:

“We’re discussing it with Warner Bros., because they own the sequel. So, we are hoping to get it made. Yeah, that’s the hope.”

Chandrasekhar has teasedPotfestin the past. At one point, the director said that Willie Nelson had even agreed to take part in the sequel after helping to set it up at the end ofBeerfest. He teased other cameo appearances from other big name celebrities known for their association with cannabis use.

“Willie (Nelson) said he would do it, and Snoop Dogg and Cheech (Marin), they both said they would do it and we’re like, ‘We can probably do this,'” he said in 2016, via ComingSoon.net.

In 2018, he saidthe team has a “story for” for the filmin mind, though he also said the plan was to pursue that project afterSuper Troopers 3, which Chandrasekhar just recently said will be Broken Lizard’s next film.
