Black Adampromises a comic-accurate take on the iconic character, and in Dwayne Johnson’s own words, it will “change the hierarchy of the DCEU.“Black AdamandThe Flashwereexpected to revive and reset the DC Extended Universe. But due to Ezra Miller’s erratic behavior,The Flashwas delayed to 2023, andBlack Adamwas pushed back to the fall from its summer release date.
Black Adamalso underwentsignificant reshoots earlier this year, with reports suggesting that it added several cameos from other DCEU characters.Viola Davis has been confirmed to return as Amanda WallerinBlack Adam, indicating that the film will take place in the current DCEU timeline and that the JSA will most likely replace the Justice League.
Black Adamis billed as aviolent yet fun superhero adventure, with Johnson playing the ruthless protagonist Teth-Adam, a former champion of the wizard Shazam, who goes berserk to avenge his family, becoming Black Adam.
Black Adam was imprisoned in the ancient city of Kahndaq but awakened 5000 years later in the present century, ready to enforce his merciless brand of justice. Johnson discussed Black Adam’s worldview with Vanity Fair, saying:
“His view of this world that he is brought back into—the current world, now, after 5,000 years—is very myopic. There’s no room or space for him being wrong. There’s no room or space for anyone else’s opinion. There’s only room and space for him justifying anything that he does because of his pain. And he pushes and pushes and pushes and does not see any other way. It’s very black and white.”

Black AdamWill Introduce The Justice Society Of America
Black Adamis still the same brutal tyrant who was captured and imprisoned 5000 years ago, so his ideals obviously don’t match up with the rest of the world. As he continues to wreak havoc, he catches the eye of Amanda Waller and theJustice League of America,who set out to apprehend him. Although, the trailers show that the JSA will also try to recruit Black Adam into their ranks.
But what is the JSA? In the comics, it was one of the world’s first superhero teams, akin to the modern Justice League. InBlack Adam, the JSA will precede the DCEU’s Justice League by 20 years and consist of several powerful superheroes: Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), the leader of the JSA, possessing the power of flight through his Nth metal wings;Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), a sorcerer granted powers with a magical helmet. In simple words, he is the DC equivalent of the MCU’s Doctor Strange, but somewhat better.
Then we have Cyclone (Quintessa Swindel), one of the younger members of the JSA who can summon cyclones and whirlwinds and generate sound. Lastly, Noah Centineo will play Atom Smasher, another young JSA member who can alter his size and strength.Black Adammarks the JSA’s first live-action appearance, and judging by the promos, the film seems to have nailed the iconic superhero team.
