Blade Runneris returning to the spotlight with the upcoming series from Amazon Studios and Prime Video,Blade Runner 2099.According to a report fromDeadline,the show has officially received the green light.Ridley Scottis set to serve as executive producer on the series, with the filmmaker helming the original 1982Blade Runnermovie. As the title suggests,Blade Runner 2099will take place 50 years after Denis Villeneuve’s venture into the universe with the 2017 filmBlade Runner 2049.
The upcoming show will be the first live-action series set in theBlade Runneruniverse, asBlade Runner: Black Lotuspremiered in 2021 on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll as an animated show. Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, released a statement regarding2099.He says, “The originalBlade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduceBlade Runner 2099to our global Prime Video customers.” He continues, “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of theBlade Runnerfranchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa,Blade Runner 2099will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Michael Green will also serve as executive producer, with experience in the franchise, as he helped writeBlade Runner 2049. In addition, Tom Spezialy has joined the writers' room with Ben Roberts, Cynthia Yorkin, David W. Zucker, and Clayton Krueger producing.

The twoBlade Runnerfilms are some of the most beloved science fiction movies ever to be released. The first, based upon the novelDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?by Philip K.
