UPDATED:Disney has not canceled the Bob’s Burgers movie release date. The animated comedy is still on Disney’s upcoming release schedule, and will hit theaters on June 08, 2025, as reported earlier this year after the Disney merger with Fox was completed.

Original Story:Disney giveth and Disney taketh away. The studio recently made some changes to its release calendar through 2023. Mostly, they were adding in some big projects, such as a handful of mystery Marvel movies, as well as shifting some things around. However, they did quietly pull a highly-anticipated project in the form of theBob’s Burgersmovie, which has been in the works for some time. While the studio hasn’t commented on the matter beyond the updated release scheduled, it does leave the project’s future in doubt.

Previously, theBob’s Burgersmovie, which doesn’t yet have an official title, had beenscheduled for release on July 03, 2025. This was revealed afterDisney’s merger with Foxwent into effect, putting them in control of the popular animated series, which extends to this big screen adventure. Following the Fox merger, Disney revealed a massive, updated release calendar back in May, which confirmed that they were indeed planning to keep this particular project on the tracks. Yet, a whole lot has changed since then and that may have shifted their thinking a bit.

The Fox projects thatDisneyinherited as part of the massive $71 billion deal have, generally speaking, not gone over all that well, to say the very least of it. Movies such asDark Phoenix,Stuber,The Art of Racing in the Rain,TolkienandAd Astrahave all bombed, hurting Disney’s profit margins right out of the gate. As such, Disney decided to ax almost all of Fox’s development slate, only keeping a small handful of projects that weren’t already too far down the tracks to pull the plug on. Given that animated movies take quite a long time to make, it would seemBob’s Burgerswould qualify, but it’s hard to say since details have been hard to come by.

Series creator Loren Bouchard is heavily involved and the entire core voice cast was/is expected to reprise their roles for the movie. TheBob’s Burger movie is a mystery musical. Beyond that, the creative team had been keeping a tight lid on things. Disney may be simply waiting to see what they have before setting a release date. It’s also possible that the big screen adaptation of the popular Fox TV show is dead in the water. Truthfully, without any further information from someone involved, it’s difficult to speculate.

Bob’s Burgersdebuted in 2011 and is currently airing its tenth season. Given the emphasis on streaming lately in the industry, with Disney recently launching Disney+, it’s possible they could look to shift the movie to a streaming debut. They recently premiered theLady and the Trampremake on Disney+, so why not do something similar here? Maybe even move it to Hulu, since Disney is also in full control of that service as well. That’s just speculation, but it’s a conceivable possibility. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any further details on the project are made available.
