There’s no denying thatBuffy the Vampire Slayerwas one of the most culturally significant TV shows of the late 90s/early 2000s. It’s still talked about today, and that chatter got even louder recently thanks to the news that the series is being rebooted, with original star Sarah Michelle Gellar on board to reprise the role that helped make her a household name. Now, another OG star has commented on things, saying that if given the chance, she’d love to return to where it all began.

Appearing at the Indiana Comic Con this past weekend (via Collider),Charisma Carpenterspoke to a large crowd of Buffy faithfuls who are eager to see where things go next for their beloved Slayer. Carpenter, of course, portrayed Cordelia Chase in the original series, starting off as a foe to Buffy before later becoming one of her closest allies. From there, she made her way to the spinoff series,Angel, where some would say she received a disappointing ending to her story. That being said, Carpenter told the audience that she would definitely come back if asked.

The Cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

“I hope so. From what I understand, there isn’t even a pilot at the moment, so I hope — if I am involved — I hope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream. I think it would be very poetic to be invited back, especially having the people that were involved to begin with, the best parts of it, Gail Berman, and then having Chloé Zhao direct — Oscar winner and, in general, badass [Laughs] — and then the Zuck sisters who are incredible writers and then obviously Sarah backing it and I hope to be part of it.”

Where Is the Cast of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ in 2025?

20 years ago fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer said goodbye to the feisty slayer and the Scooby gang, after 7 seasons. Where are they now?

Things are still in the very early stages of theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot, so there’s no telling how long it will take to get the pilot written, cast, and shot before Hulu decides if they will give it a full series order. Gellarrecently commentedthat, “we’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” but even with that quick progression, there’s still a ways to go.

Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

How Charisma Carpenter Could Return in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’

Though Carpenter is eager to return to the Buffyverse, that could prove to be difficult given the fate of her character by the timeAngelwas all said and done. Fans will recall that Cordelia died after giving birth to Jasmine, and eventually became a higher being whose purpose it was to serve The Powers that Be. Who can ever forget her final appearance in Season 5, Episode 12, “You’re Welcome,” as she says those very words to Angel as he goes to answer the phone, and then vanishes.

For theBuffyreboot, it is possible that Cordelia could return in some form or fashion as an Earthly being, but it’s highly doubtful that it would happen in the pilot. The story would have to progress much further, with our hero in desperate need of some intervention for her appearance to really make sense. She couldn’t just pop up as if nothing ever happened, because as much as we have to suspend our disbelief to enjoy all thingsBuffy, even that would be pushing things a little.
