Castlevaniaseason 1 just arrived on Netflix and, as it turns out, the streaming service feels quite confident in what they have. Usually, networks and streaming services wait a little bit to see how a show does before giving the green light to more episodes. But that is not the case withCastlevania. It turns out that Netflix has already orderedCastlevaniaseason 2 with an expanded episode order.

Producer Adi Shankar (Dredd,The Grey) recently spoke with CinemaRunner in honor ofCastlevania season 1, which is being billed as Part 1, arriving on Netflix. The first season is just four episodes long, but the streaming service has givenCastlevaniaseason 2 a little more breathing room with twice as many episodes. Here’s what Adi Shankar had to say when asked if there was any material he wanted to include in the first season that didn’t make the cut.

“Well, let’s remember that this is just season one. And not only has season two already been greenlit, but the episode order has been doubled to eight episodes. So the chapter definitely hasn’t fully closed on this story.”

Adi Shankar is asserting himself in theworld of animation. He recently confirmed that he is shifting his focus in that direction and, in addition to hisCastlevaniaseries, he also recently announced that he is working on anAssassin’s Creedanime series with UbiSoft. Possibly for Netflix as well. For a guy who is primarily known for his high-budget fan films, such asPunisher: Dirty LaundryandPower/Rangers, that’s pretty impressive.

Video game adaptations have been tricky, but it sounds likeCastlevaniahit the nail on the head. Hollywood can’t seem to crack the code on Video game movies, but maybe animated shows like this are a safer bet. The series, which is based on the video game of the same name, is a dark medieval fantasy that chronicles the last surviving member of thedisgraced Belmont clan, who is trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Dracula. Graham McTavish (Outlander,Preacher) provides the voice of Dracula, with Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) voicing Simon Belmont.

Castlevaniaseason 1 was written by Warren Ellis, but there is no word yet on if he will return forCastlevaniaseason 2.Netflixwill probably want to keep the same creative team in place, given how enthusiastic they seem to be about the adaptation. SinceCastlevaniahas had more than 20 games in its long history since the first game debuted on the NES in 1987, there is plenty of stories to draw inspiration from. Other classic monsters like Medusa, Frankenstein and the Mummy have played a role in some of the otherCastlevaniagames, so Dracula could be getting some company inCastlevaniaseason 2. But before we get ahead of ourselves, you should probably head on over to Netflix and watch thefirst season of Castlevania. Then feel free to speculate wildly.
