After the astounding success ofOppenhiemer, backed by his almost flawless filmography, hopes are incredibly high forChristopher Nolan’sThe Odyssey. The upcoming historical epic, based on the epic Greek play by Homer, was part of Universal’s presentation at this year’s Cinema Con. While the studio didn’t have any new footage to unveil, as filming is currently ongoing, the movie was hailed as nothing short of a “masterpiece” by Jim Orr, Universal Pictures' president of domestic theatrical distribution.

During Universal Pictures' presentation at this year’s Cinema Con (via The Hollywood Reporter), Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic was lavished with praise by the studio. While the director himself was unable to attend, as he is currently in production onThe Odyssey, Jim Orr got the crowd and Nolan’s extremely dedicated fan base hyped about the new film. Not only will fans be happy withThe Odyssey, but, according to Orr, even Homer would be proud of the movie. He said:

Several new images from Christopher Nolan’s fantasy epic have now emerged.

During the presentation, Jim Orr also highlighted how Christopher Nolan “assembled a staggering all-star cast” forThe Odyssey. That line-up of A-listers includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Cosmo Jarvis, Ryan Hurst, Benny Safdie, and Samantha Morton.Shogun’s Cosmo Jarvis was only recently announcedto be starring in the film, meaning even more A-listers could still be added.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Releases on June 30, 2025

We haven’t even made it through 2025’s packed slate of upcoming movies, but Nolan’s fans already have their sites set on next June as the date cinema changes forever. As well as characteristically assembling an all-star cast (just like he did withOppenheimer),Christopher Nolan is also shootingThe Odysseyon IMAX.When the release date was revealed, Universal also described the project as:

“A mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on August 21, 2025.”

Filming is currently ongoing, and leaked set photos have slowly been rippling across the internet. So far, we’ve seen glimpses of major battles, Tom Holland and Nolan on a boat, and Matt Damon’s Odysseus and Zendaya’s unrevealed character on a beach. The onlyofficial photo ofThe Odysseyshowcased Damon’s leading hero wearing his armor. While Nolan fans loved the first still, historians were expectedly up in arms, picking out various historical flaws with the costume.

The official synopsis forThe Odysseyhasn’t been released. However, Homer’s epic poem is one of the most celebrated stories in the literary world. The poem tells the tale of Odysseus' decade-long journey, filled with challenges and monsters, back to Ithica after fighting in the Trojan War.
