When most shows arerenewed, fans can normally expect to see them back at the same time the next year. HBO’sCurb Your Enthusiasm, however, is not most shows, since series creator and starLarry Davidhas a unique deal with the cable network, that essentially allows him to deliver a new season whenever he pleases. The show hasn’t aired new episodes sinceSeason 8back in 2011, but it seems thatLarry Davidis getting ready forSeason 9.
Sports radio DJChris Lawrevealed on hisTwitteraccount last week thatCurb Your EnthusiasmwriterJeff Schafferrecently met withLarry David, where both a new season and a movie were discussed. Last month, during the TCA Summer Press Tour, HBO presidentMichael Lombardorevealed that he recently ran intoLarry Davidover the summer at a Broadway premiere, where he teased a new season ofCurb Your Enthusiasm. Here’s what the HBO president had to say.
“[He told me,] ‘Do you know what this is? This is the next season notebook.’ I don’t think it’s out of his system. When he has something to say, he will come back. I certainly see this as a continuing dialogue with him - a long one, but a continuing one.”
Jeff Schafferhas collaborated withLarry Davidfor more than a decade.Jeff Schafferwrote a number ofSeinfeldepisodes and served as an executive producer on the show during its last two seasons. He went on to both executive produce and write forCurb Your Enthusiasm, before creating the FXX seriesThe League, which is currently airing its final season. WhileThe Leagueis a much different show thanCurb Your Enthusiasm, it follows the same type of format where actors follow an outline instead of a full script, and improvise their lines.
The show’s cast has always been a revolving door, withJeff Garlinthe only actor who has appeared in every one of the show’s 81 episodes alongsideLarry David.Cheryl Hinesis the only othercast memberwho has been on board since the first season, with other notable cast members including Susie Essman,Richard Lewis, Bob Einstein,J.B. SmooveandTed Danson. It isn’t clear yet which of these actors will be coming back forSeason 9.
