Following the release ofDeadpool & Wolverine, the internet was flooded with concept art and costumes showcasing the unused variants in the film. But,a sneak peek at the new official concept art book has revealed even more variants, and they might be the best ones yet.As Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) bounces between timelines searching for a new Wolverine to be his timeline’s Anchor Being, we’re treated to some fun alternate versions of the iconic X-Men hero (played by Hugh Jackman). The montage shows off Old Man Logan, thecomic’s accurate Short King Wolverine, and even the fan-casted Cavillerine. However, new concept art has revealed some even more impressive variants that didn’t make the final cut.

Thanks toThe Artbook Collector, fans can flick through the official concept art book which reveals hundreds of unused variants. The standout stars (which can be found in the screenshot below) are theZombieverine, the Babyverine, and the Hulkverine. The Zombieverine is a callback to the popular alternate timeline comicMarvel Zombies(which was also referenced inSpider-Man: Far From Home). It’s easy to imagine that the Babyverine came straight from the mind of Ryan Reynolds, and might have been a play on the baby legs joke fromDeadpool 2. But, if a near-immortal, rage-filled Wolverine wasn’t scary enough, make him over 7-foot tall and around 600lbs. TheHulkverinewould have been a sight to behold on the big screen.

Wolverine variants from Deadpool & Wolverine

The book also showcases some alternateDeadpool variants that never made the final cut.Deadpool loves riffing on the Avengers, but one costume would have seen him wear all the iconic pieces from each core member, including Captain America’s shield, Thor’s winged helmet, Hawkeye’s bow, Iron Man’s armor torso, and Black Widow’s electrified bracelets. Also included were some previously revealed variants, like the Ronin-Deadpool and an alternate costume for the cowboy Deadpool variant.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Variants Were Cut Due to Budget Constraints

Even thoughDeadpool & Wolverinefeatured a metric ton of different variants, thanks to the new concept art book, fans will now always be wondering why the other designs were cut. Speaking toComicBookMovie.com, editors Shane Reid and Dean Zimmerman revealed the selection process for the different variants.Zimmerman said it ultimately came down to budget constraints. The beloved yellow and brown suit worn by Hugh Jackman for a few brief moments cost $100k alone. As a result, director Shawn Levy, and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had to be economical about which variants they included. The editor said:

“We have to get a little economical with what we could actually come up with and do. So, yeah, ‘Hugh, can you take your shirt off be bolted to a cross?’ ‘Yeah, I can do that, no problem.’ ‘Great, let’s get a bunch of pink skulls, throw ‘em down there, and light it in the way of the comic book.’ ‘Can you be an old man?’ ‘Sure!’ They were all thought out but also done with budget in mind and also time.”
