Deadpool 3screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have officially confirmed that the film will retain adult content that includes foul language, violence, and vulgarity, just like the previous two installments. ThoughDeadpoolhas always been a foul-mouthed merc, it’s a big call forDeadpool 3, which this timeis under production at Disney’s Marvel Studios.
After Marvel Studios took over theDeadpoolfilm series andX-Men, fans and followers were confused if the studio would incorporate Deadpool with his foul mouth into its more children-friendly franchise. Studio and Kevin Feige always ensured fans that Deadpool would remain R-rated, and now, the film’s writers have also confirmed it. In an interview with Den of Geek, the writing duo confirmed that they have keptDeadpool as Deadpooland said Marvel has been incredibly supportive of the idea. Reese commented,
Don’t worry about that. They’ve been very supportive with regard to that. Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing because, obviously, we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success, and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully, it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.
Deadpool 3will beMCU’s first R-rated entry. Thefilm is being directed by Shawn Levy, who had earlier collaborated with Ryan Reynolds inFree GuyandThe Adam Project. Theremay be some reservations that Marvel forwards to writersabout the vulgarity aspect of the film, but it seems like the character will have an open mouth just like before inDeadpool 3. The film will be set in a later phase of the MCU. It’s still titledDeadpool 3, which could mean that the character would enter the MCU via multiverse. It will be worth watching how Marvel studios bring newness to the character’s future under its banner.

A Joyous Decision for Fans
Deadpool made an infamous debut inX-Men Origins: Wolverine. That iteration was heavily criticized for ripping off the character’s soul and discarding his comic book roots. Years later, Fox Studios revived the series withDeadpool (2016),starring Ryan Reynolds in a more authentic character version. This Deadpool cursed, was brutal, vulgar, gory, and broke the fourth wall. The film made $782 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie at the time, and earned Reynolds a Golden Globe nomination.
FollowingDeadpool 2(2018), Disney acquired Fox Studios, bringing rights for Deadpool and the rest of theX-Men Seriesto Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Disney. That meant that future Deadpool films would be produced under Marvel Studios', merging with the shared continuity of theMarvel Cinematic Universe. But fans wondered if Marvel would be able topull off the character’s story in its PG-13 segment. Marvel earlier experimented with Deadpool set in its regular format when it closely monitored response toward Fox’s PG-13 cut ofDeadpool 2, dubbedOnce Upon A Deadpool. But thankfully, the studio chose to stay with the R-rating, which clearly defines the character and his backstory better.
Writers Reese and Wernick have penned the two previous films. So fans can expect callbacks included with references to past MCU films, which Deadpool would clearly use for his wicked humor. There’s still a lot to discover whatDeadpool 3will hold in store, but the merc will have a bright showdown under Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige’s vision.
