Just from the headline, you should know that this next story contains some majorDivergentfranchiseSPOILERS. Turn away now if you want to avoid aHUGE REVEAL. Author Veronica Roth caused much controversy with the ending of her third book,Allegiant, which is being split into two movies. Without giving too much away, we’ll just say main heroine Tris, played byShailene Woodley, doesn’t quite make it to end credits. While speaking toColliderabout the theatrical release of the second film in the series,The Divergent Series: Insurgent, producer Todd Lieberman was asked how this would be handled. Truth is, he really doesn’t know just yet. With the book being split into two movies, he won’t have to deal with that in The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1. But he does hint that we may not see a change from the book to the screen, if he has his way about it:

“We’re taking Allegiant and splitting it into two, so the first part of it won’t go that far. But yeah, the book had that ending, and there was certainly controversy over it. Personally, I feel that it’s an important arc for that character. But we haven’t actually discussed too much of that yet…They’re beloved characters. I can see how that would cause a controversy. Sometimes you have to make bold choices, creatively. I’m always in favor of that.”

He does promise a bigger, and much different set of movies with The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 andThe Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2. The two-part finale will come out over the course of the next two years, in 2016 and 2017. He explains:

“I don’t want to promise too much, but I can say that the things that we’ve talked about have been very, very cool. There’s going to be some really mind-blowing visuals. Those who have read the book know where it goes. It goes into a whole different world, and we’re really excited to explore that.”

The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 will being shooting this summer on May 18, the exact same day Todd Lieberman’s live-actionBeauty and the Beastbegins shooting for Disney. What do you think? Should Tris live to see a potential new trilogy of films? Or shouldThe Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2just stay the course and stick to the original narrative?
