It looks like Warner Bros. is keeping their plannedBatgirlflick on the move as today we have word that the powers that be behind the scenes are trying to snagStar Wars: The Force AwakensandStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerstar Daisy Ridley as their Barbara Gordon. OriginallyThe AvengersandAvengers: Age of Ultronwriter-director (andBuffy the Vampire Slayercreator)Joss Whedon was all set to write and directa new version of the classic character. But then Whedon’s sure-to-be tongue in cheek version of the project was canceled after theDollhouseandFireflycreator “simply couldn’t find the right story.” From there, Warner Bros. quickly set a new screenwriter in place for the film withBirds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)writer Christina Hodson now working on retooling the potential franchise starter.
And speaking of Hodson and Warner Bros.' plannedBatgirlmovie, recently the screenwriter commented that she’s, ‘loving writing it.’ She went onto say, ‘I can say that it’s a total joy to work on. I love the character. And every day I’m finding new things to love and get excited about.’
For those of you that might have forgotten, never knew, or just blocked out the memory completely, this plannedBatgirlmotion picture will not be the first time we’ve seenBarbara Gordondon her Batsuit on the big screen. That “honor” goes toCluelessactress Alicia Silverstone fromFalling DownandThe Lost Boysdirector Joel Schumacher’s 1997 horror-showBatman and Robinstarring Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Clooney, Chris O’Donnell, and Uma Thurman. But the less said about that movie, the better.
