When Warner Bros. releasedBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicein March, there had long been rumors thatJena Malonewas playing a mysterious charater, long rumored to be Batgirl. As it turns out, she wasn’t actually Batgirl, and her scenes cut from the movie as a whole, although her scenes will be included in the Ultimate Edition debuting on Digital HD June 28 and on Blu-ray and DVD July 19. While we’ll have to wait and see if Batgirl will return to the big screen again, one filmmaker would like to make that movie,Nicolas Winding Refn.

The filmmaker was promoting his new filmThe Neon Demon, which opened this weekend, when he was asked byBusiness Insiderif he has any interest in making a superhero movie. The filmmaker teased that he would love to make one, calling out Warner Bros. to put aBatgirlmovie into development. Here’s what he had to say below.

“God, I would love to make one (asuperhero movie), it would probably be great fun. I just don’t know when it’s going to happen. I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity. What ones are left? You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl. Let’s get Warner working on it.”

While we don’t know if there are plans for a solo Batgirl movie, there is one project thatNicolas Winding Refncould take on. We reported last month that Warner Bros. is developing aHarley Quinnmovie that may also include Birds of Prey and Batgirl.Margot Robbiewill reprise her Harley Quinn role fromSuicide Squad, but it isn’t known if there are any writers or directors attached to this project as of yet.

Other than the Harley Quinn project, it isn’t clear if Warner Bros. is planning a Batgirl stand alone movie, or any otherDC Comicsprojects that may include Batgirl. It isn’t known ifNicolas Winding Refnhas any other projects that are in development, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted. With the DCEU continually growing, it wouldn’t be surprising if a Batgirl movie did actually happen, with or withoutNicolas Winding Refnat the helm.
