Veteran actorGiancarlo Espositois continuing with his campaign to land the role of Professor X in the nextX-Menmovie. Following rumors that Esposito was up for the role, the actor confirmed that he’s had talks with Marvel about that possibility along with a few other roles he could potentially play. While he hasn’t been cast in any of these roles at this time, Esposito made it clear that Professor X would be the one he’d get to play if the choice was up to him.
PerComicBook.com’s Liam Crowley, Esposito recently spoke more about his desire to play Charles Xavier at Fan Expo Boston. He addressed what he would bring to the table as Professor X, making it easier to envision what theBetter Call Saulstar might be like in the role. As Esposito puts it:
“I’d play that character with force, grace, and a calm. Someone who controls the chaos, but someone who also has the ability to uplift and inspire.”
As reported by Crowley, Esposito also touched on the discussions he has previously had with Marvel Studios. He reveals that he was in talks at one point to appear in a Marvel series that has since arrived on Disney+, suggesting that it was forLoki. Esposito does not name a specific role that he would have been up for, but he reportedly said he passed on the offer as he wanted to hold out for a major movie role when it came to his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.

Giancarlo Esposito Is Known for Playing Villains
There has been a lot of chatter with Marvel fans about how Giancarlo Esposito might be as Professor X. In his other recent roles, Esposito has expertly played cunning villains on shows likeBetter Call Saul,The Mandalorian, andThe Boys. Some fans may question if they’ll be able to separate him from hit other villainous characters, though others have argued that this would be the perfect opportunity for the seasoned actor to do something different.
“I have not worked for Marvel yet,“Esposito previously saidabout his potential MCU role. “I’ve been in a room with them and talked to them… So, there’s been talk of Magneto… Who else has there been talk about over there? Oh, Doom, Doctor Doom! And then there is… Professor X.”
Teasing that he wants to be Charles Xavier most of all, the actor added, “I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.”
Time will tell if Esposito snags the Professor X role, but it does seem inevitable that he will arrive in the MCU at some point, given the interest from both side in making that happen one day. For now, Esposito might be seen one last time in his role as Gus Fring in the series finale ofBetter Call Saulwhich arrives on AMC on Aug. 15.
