TheSuper Bowlweekend is usually a pretty bad time for the box office, but this year is the worst weekend including the big game in 19 years. M. Night Shyamalan’sGlassearned its third straight number one weekend, having brought in $9.5 million. Worldwide, the movie is approaching $200 million, which is already proving to be a huge hit since it only cost $20 million to produce. However, it’s not clear how much money has been pumped into the pretty massive promotional campaign.
Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston’sThe Upsidetook the number two spot again. The comedy earned $8.8 million in its fourth week at thebox office. The movie has brought in just over $81 million globally, with the majority of that chunk coming from North America.Miss Balacame in at number three for its debut weekend with $6.7 million. The action thriller is based on the 2011 Mexican movie of the same name and stars Gina Rodriguez.
Coming in at number four this weekend isAquaman. The Arthur Curry standalone movie brought in $4.7 million and recently crossed the $1.1 billion mark globally. The James Wan-directed project has now earned a domestic total of $323.5 million. Coming in right behindAquamanisSpider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, earning $4.4 Million, which was enough to take the number five spot. The Sony and Marvel movie has been named the best animated feature of 2018 at the 46th Annual Annie Awards where it swept all seven categories it was nominated in.
Green Booktook the number six spot this weekend after bringing in $4.3 million. The Academy Awards have helped the movie pop back into the top ten over the past few weeks. This brings the domestic total to $55.8 million. As for number seven, that position goes toThe Kid Who Would be Kingwith $4.2 Million, falling from number four last week. Despite positive reviews, the Fox movie could end up losing up to $50 million when all is said and done.
A Dog’s Way Homeearned $3.5 million this weekend, which was enough to take the number eight spot. Since hitting theaters four weeks ago, the family adventure movie has earned $50.9 million globally. Sony’s thrillerEscape Roomtook the ninth spot, having brought in $2.9 million. And the tenth spot for the weekend went to Peter Jackson’s World War I documentaryThey Shall Not Grow Old, which earned $2.4 million.
