Way back in January, fans were given quite the surprise when the gestating thriller that was known as bothValenciaandThe Cellarwas re-titled10 Cloverfield Lane, making it a part ofJ.J. Abrams’Cloverfielduniverse. Just a few weeks ago, it was revealed that another upcoming Paramount film,God Particle, is also aCloverfieldmovie. But while the movie’s true identity was kept a secret from fans, it seems the truth was held from the cast as well. “I actually have no idea. That is news to me. When I did the project it was a total standalone sci-fi,space thriller. So I couldn’t tell you how it’s connected. I don’t know if that’s just a rumor.”
While it’s possible that the actress was just playing coy in her interview withScreen Rant, there’s a very good chance that she had no clue about theCloverfield connection.David Oyelowoteased last week that the movie is an “incredibly exciting and innovative piece of storytelling,” but he wouldn’t say how far ahead in advance that he know it was aCloverfieldmovie. It isn’t known when the first trailer will be released, but Paramount did reveal footage during an event showcasing their upcoming film slate last month.
J.J. Abramsteased in February thatCloverfield 3was already being planned, but no one expected the third movie in this franchise to be announced just a few months later. The movie centers on a team of astronauts who make a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality. It remains to be seen how that shocking discovery will tie into 2008’sCloverfieldor this year’s10 Cloverfield Lane.
The cast also includesDavid Oyelowo,Elizabeth Debicki,Daniel Bruhl,Ziyi Zhang,Chris O’Downd,Aksel HennieandJohn Ortiz.Julius Onah(The Girl Is In Trouble) directs from a script byDoug Jung(Star Trek Beyond) andOren Uziel(22 Jump Street). It hasn’t been confirmed when the first trailer forGod Particle, a.k.a.Cloverfield 3will arrive yet.
