According toHalloween EndsdirectorDavid Gordon Green, the finale of the legacy trilogy was never meant to center on a Michael Myers versus Laurie Strode showdown. He probably should have told the marketing team. Speaking withMovie Maker, Green explained why the idea of a simple face-off between long-time enemies Michael Myers and Laurie never really appealed to him, with the filmmaker determined to be more ambitious.
“We had to decide how we wanted to wrap up these characters. How do we want to make it not just a nice, neat bow on a franchise? Honestly, we never once considered making a Laurie and Michael movie. The concept that it should be a final showdown-type brawl never even crossed our minds. I wanted to see where it would go. I wanted one to win, one to die. But we were always more ambitious with that. So how did we want to go out? By doing what no one except us would do: make a love story. It’s our version of going out with a bang and opening our hearts to this community and these characters.”

Thus,Halloween Endspicks up four years after the events ofHalloween Kills, and finds Laurie living with her granddaughter and finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers is nowhere to be seen, and the focus shifts to Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) and his relationship with Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak). Of course, Myers comes into play eventually, but while Green endeavored to give audiences something unexpected, not revolving around a Myers vs. Laurie battle has not gone down well with a lot ofHalloweenfans.

A Petition Has Been Launched to RemakeHalloween Ends
In fact,Halloween Endshas gone down so poorly with some horror fansthat a petition has now been launched for the finale to be remade. “Halloween Ends was NOT a film that the Fans wanted! This was an Origins Story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween Franchise!” the description alongside the petition, which has now reached almost 15,000 signatures, reads. “We love this Franchise whole heartily and this version of a Halloween Movie left us sad, mad, disappointed, and Infuriated. Please give us a movie that shows us what Halloween is really about. Our Apex Predator…. the King of Slasher Movies Michael Myers! This movie gave us a weak pathetic Michael who needed his mask to survive! This isn’t OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our Killer is Strong , relentless, & unstoppable! Please right this wrong! We beg of you !!!”
Director David Gordon Green no doubt knew thatHalloween Endswas a big swing, but it is interesting to learn thatHalloween Endswas never intended to put the spotlight on a final showdown between Michael Myers and Laurie. A detail that is likely to come as a surprise to anyone who watched any of the trailers or read any of the press releases prior to the movie’s release.
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, Will Patton, Kyle Richards, and James Jude Courtney,Halloween Endslanded in theaters earlier this month and is now streaming on paid tiers of Peacock for 60 days.
