Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinymay not have broken any records when it comes to its performance at the box office, but the belated sequel has seenHarrison Fordclaim his own record-breaking accolade. Despite many critics ridiculing Ford’ appearance as Indy inIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the CrystalSkull 15 years ago, Ford has returned for one final outing, and it is “old Indy” that has seen Ford claim his own Disney record.

Harrison Ford once joked about what it would be like to still be playing Indiana Jones when he was 80, and now he has had the chance to find out. In doing so he has also become the oldest actor to ever lead a Disney movie, taking over a 24 year old record set by Richard Farnsworth inThe Straight Story, a David Lynch movie based on a true story. At the time Farnsworth was 79 years old, just a little younger than Ford, who was 80 when he filmedDial of Destiny.

One thing thatDial of Destinydoes not do is shy away from the factthat Indy is no longer the middle-aged manhe was when his big screen adventures began. Ford plays the role with a certain amount of pathos, and also acknowledges on a number of occasions that he shouldn’t be doing the things he is due to his bad knees, weak shoulders and numerous other complaints brought about by his old age.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Is Mostly Successful In Rounding Out the Franchise.

From the moment it was announced, there were many people who had doubts over Harrison Ford’s ability to be convincing as Indiana Jones as an octogenarian. However, it soon became clear that the film would not attempt to show the adventurer as being anything other than the aged man he is, and for his part, Ford was throwing himself into stunt work like a man half his age. This led to the actor being put out of action for a while when he sustained an arm injury while rehearsing for some of the movie’s fight scenes.

This is, however, as far as it goes for Indiana Jones, as Ford has made it clear, despite a possible last minute tease of more at the end of the movie, that he is not happy to put one of his most iconic roles to bed on the back ofDial of Destiny. Althoughthe film has underperformed at the box office, audiences have been more than happy to see Indy have one final epic adventure, and one that provides a lot of closure to the character in many ways.

There has been talk of other branches of the Indiana Jones universe coming into play, such as a TV show based on his younger years, or even a spin-off featuring Phoebe Waller-Bridge reprising her role as Helena, but it seems that Lucasfilm are going to be too tied up with theStar Warsfranchise in the foreseeable future. It may turn out that the Indiana Jones franchise could have been brought to a conclusion that is going to stick for a long while at least.
