It’s looking like theHarry Potterfranchise will be reimagined on the small screen. As anyone who’s ever heard of movies will know, Daniel Radcliffe previously led a feature film series based on the J.K. Rowling novels between 2001 and 2011. The franchise took a detour with a pair ofFantastic Beastsmovies, but they weren’t quite able to recreate the same levels of success as the mainHarry Potterseries, putting plans to move forward with those films on ice. Now, it appears that the plan is to revisit the spectacled wizard for an all-new reboot, this time as an episodic series rather than feature films.

Bloombergreports that a plannedHarry Potterseries is getting lined up at HBO Max with Warner Bros. Discovery looking to finalize a deal on the reboot. The reported plan is for each season to take inspiration from the different installments of the novel series, each book filling out its own season. One benefit to going down this route would be allowing for much more of that world to be explored, as there had always been a lot of material that needed to be trimmed for the sake of the movies. A new format would also help to differentiate the series from the previous movies with Radcliffe.

Also touched on in the report is the potential involvement of Rowling, who has endured quite a bit of controversy since the movie series ended. There are some former fans of the franchise who insist they will no longer supportHarry Potterif Rowling is involved. Word is that Rowling would have some sort of degree of creative control with the reboot series, but she’s not expected to lead the charge or serve as showrunner.

Will a Harry Potter Reboot Series Be Just as Successful as the Movies?

It’s hard to say at this point just how well the rumored reboot series would perform, but what’s certain is that matching the popularity of the movies will be a tremendous challenge. Through the course of eight films, theHarry Potterseries managed to surpass $7.7 billion at the box office. Rowling losing some fans andthe shortcomings of theFantastic Beastsfilmscould be seen as a sign of interest in the franchise dwindling, though theHarry Potterbrand seemed to go back on the upswing recently with the success of the new video gameHogwarts Legacy.

In any case, without much more information to go on at this time, fans will just have to wait and see what the future holds forHarry Potter.
