TheHellboyfranchise will undergo another reboot this year, andThe Killerand12 StrongstarJack Kesyhas been chosen to play the titular paranormal investigator inHellboy: The Crooked Man. Kesy will be the third actor to star as the Demonic comic book character, following in the giant footsteps of Ron Perlman and David Harbour. But, while he may have some big boots to fill,Kesy has teased howThe Crooked Manwill set itself apart from its predecessors:lean into horror.

“It’s definitely very horror. It’s more faithful to Mike Mignola’s comics than anything before, so Mike’s very excited. You know, it’s literally pulled from the comic book almost frame by frame… It’s grounded, it’s darker, it’s rated R, it’s spookier, it’s grimier. It’s what I think Mike intended for it to be.”

“So, I was really excited, and he’s like, ‘Well, it’s going to happen quick. This is what you have to do. You have to put something on tape, send me a scene or two.’ I pulled out my big guns, literally, some cigarettes, [and] put together a scene. And they did back flips over it, apparently. So, I’m glad they enjoyed it, because I enjoyed the audition. I knew this was going to be a fun character to play. Someone I could oddly relate to, on a personality level, not on an aesthetic level. I enjoyed it.”
