As well as leading the phenomenalGame of Thronesspin-off series,House of the Dragon, British actor, Emma D’Arcy is now set to appear alongside action starTom Cruisein his next movie. The film was announced in December last year, withBirdman’s Alejandro G. Iñárritu set to direct. Details about the project are scarce, but D’Arcy is the latest to be added to the movie’s phenomenal cast.
The news comes via an official statement D’Arcy released to Deadline. “I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom,” they began. “They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.“Production on Iñárritu and Cruise’s new movieis currently underway in Pinewood Studios in the UK. While the title hasn’t been revealed, the film already has a release date. The new movie is set to premiere on August 06, 2025.

Iñárritu is a multi-Oscar-winning director, best known forBirdman,Biutiful, andThe Revenant. The director has re-teamed with hisBirdmanscreenwriters, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone for the new project. While a lot about the film is shrouded in mystery, a vague plot synopsis was revealed last December along with the film’s release date announcement. Tom Cruise will reportedly play “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Tom Cruise’s New Movie Has a Star-Studded Cast
As previously mentioned, Emma D’Arcy is just the latest major name to be added to the film’s cast. If Tom Cruise alone wasn’t enough to sell you on the movie, the pair will be joined by Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski), Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Riz Ahmed (Four Lions), and Michael Stuhlbarg (The Shape of Water). In December 2024, Deadline briefly spoke to Tom Cruise about the film. The actor didn’t reveal much about the project, only saying that he’s having “the time of my life [working with Iñárritu and] this cast.”
As well as Iñárritu’s next movie, Tom Cruise is also set to cap off the long-runningMission: Impossiblefranchise.Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningwill be the eighth and final film in the beloved action/thriller series. The first trailer was recently released, andTom Cruise is once again pulling off a major stunt.This time, the acting vet will hang upside down from the wing of a crop duster plane.Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningis set to hold its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 14.
As for D’Arcy, they are also in the middle of shooting Season 3 of HBO’sHouse of the Dragon. The third season is expected to dive further into the"Dance of the Dragons” civil war from George R.R. Martin’s novels,and will feature many more gruesome battles than the comparatively tamer Season 2. Season 3 hasn’t been given an official release date yet.
