Last week, reports surfaced that Marvel’s highly-anticipatedAvengers: Infinity Warhasstarted filmingin Atlanta, with several cast members reportedly spotted in the area. We don’t have confirmation that principal photography has started yet. Other reports claim shooting won’t actually begin until January. While we wait on official confirmation from Marvel, one of the studio’s executives sent out an intriguing photo. Earlier this morning, Marvel Studios co-presidentLouis D’Espositooffered an update from anAvengers: Infinity Warmeeting, hinting at the plot.
Louis D’Espositosent out the photo onTwitterthis morning, revealing that he was currently in the “coolestAvengers: Infinity Warmeeting.” The photo in question was a cover of theInfinity Gauntletcomic series, which was actually the first in Marvel’s massive crossover series, with the second beingInfinity War. Some have speculated that this could mean thatInfinity Warand its currently untitled sequel may have elements of both comic stories, but that has yet to be confirmed.
The Infinity Gauntlet comics followThanosas he assembles all of the Infinity Stones, causing all of the Marvel heroes to unite and defeat him, but their plan does not go so well, with Thanos even killing off a number of characters including most of theX-Menand theFantastic Four, along withDaredevil. The Marvel heroes band together with Adam Warlock to defeat him in the comics, but we don’t know if this character will be featured in the movie quite yet. There have been plenty of rumors of Adam Warlock coming to the MCU over the years, but nothing has been confirmed.
You may recall that, back in September, a report surfaced claimingAvengers: Infinity Waris in fact a crossover between bothInfinity GauntletandInfinity War comics, with a rumored plot description claiming that Thanos is trying to impress “the personification of Death,” who will be a woman in this movie. Thanos' “grand plan” is to wipe out literally half of the planet to impress Death enough so that she will fall for him. The Death character has yet to be cast at this time as well, but with production starting up soon, hopefully these casting questions will be answered soon.
That report also reaffirms that theGuardians of the Galaxywill be appearing in the movie, and it also claims that Nick Fury will be making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Avengers: Infinity Warwas originally set to be a “two-part” movie, but now the first movie will retain that title, although its follow-up hasn’t been given a proper title at this time.
