Jerry Seinfeldhas had a big month. His star-studded new film,Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, hits Netflix on May 3, promising a zany sugar rush of comedy with himself, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Bill Burr, Christian Slater, Jon Hamm, and so many more funny actors. And almost one month before that, Seinfeld starred in the series finale ofCurb Your Enthusiasm. The Larry David series hilariously deconstructed the original ending of his classic show with Jerry,Seinfeld, by going meta and bringing in the actor himself to ‘save the day’ in a clever way. Watching Larry and Jerry banter inthe season finalewas surprisingly touching, considering their nearly four-decade-long relationship. Seinfeld opened up about the finale with MovieWeb:

“I was thrilled that Larry invited me to do it with him.I couldn’t imagine a nicer dovetail of our long, long relationship and friendship and working partnership, that we got back together at the end of his show, which is the biggest moment that he’ll have on doing that. And I got to be part of it, which is great. You know, we started together in ‘88, and here we are in 2024, ending, still together. It was just the greatest.”

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story

Curb Your Enthusiasmhad previously addressed the ending ofSeinfeldin season seven, whenLarry convinces the cast to have a reunionin a way to win back the affections of his wife (like everything withCurb Your Enthusiasm, it’s a long story). But when ending his own show of nearly 25 years, Larry David knew that the finale would have to address the infamous finale of his other show, Seinfeld. Seeing Larry and Jerry together for one last time made for a very special ending.

You know, we started together in ‘88, and here we are in 2024, ending still together. It was just the greatest.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm Finale Fixed a Major Seinfeld Problem

Seinfeld’s series finale was infamously polarizing – a problem that Larry sought to correct 26 years later, in the finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Unfrosted Is a Wacky Comedy Departure

Meanwhile,Unfrostedexists in a very different comedic universe thanCurb Your Enthusiasm, though they both dabble in absurdity. The Pop-Tart movie is downright zany, a madcap comedy with a cavalcade of famous faces, all sending up ‘space race’ movies likeThe Right Stuff, First Man, Hidden Figures, Apollo 13,and so on. Except instead of sending a man to the moon, two different superpowers (breakfast companies Post and Kellogg’s) are competing to send a shelf-stable boxed pastry to supermarkets.

Seinfeld plays the man leading the charge, under the supervision of Mr. Kellogg, played by Jim Gaffigan (you can watch our interview with Seinfeld and Gaffigan above). He brings in a variety of experts (played by Melissa McCarthy, James Marsden, Maria Bakalova, Max Greenfield, Dan Levy, Tony Hale, Amy Schumer, etc.) to help him solve the puzzle of the Pop-Tart.You can check out the trailer for the delightful new movie below and watch it on Netflix when it premieres May 3.Watch it here.
