The nextLord of the Ringsmovie,The Hunt for Gollum, already has Viggo Mortensen’s sword, and it might have Orlando Bloom’s bow. Now,John Rhys-Daviessaid that Gimli will proudly offer his axe if he’s called to star in the movie. The new movie isset to be released in December 2027(although this is potentially subject to change as the film has already been delayed once). Mortensen (Aragorn) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) are already confirmed to star in the movie, and fans are now expecting several other core members of the Fellowship to appear.
During an appearance at Fan Expo Philadelphia, hosted by Screen Rant’s Joe Deckelmeier, John Rhys-Davies said that he would love to return as Gimli for Andy Serkis’The Hunt for Gollum. Unlike hisLord of the Ringscharacter, who loves to quip and berate Bloom’s Legolas, John Rhys-Davies kept his answer short and sweet. He said:

“If I’m asked to serve, I will consider it and probably say yes.”
Andy Serkis Shares His Hilarous Recollection of His First Day as Gollum on ‘Lord of the Rings’ Set
Andy Serkis became a motion capture pioneer playing Gollum in ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ but his on-set appearance confused many people.
Outside of Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen,The Hunt for Gollum’s wider cast hasn’t been confirmed yet. It should also go without saying that director Andy Serkis will also reprise his role as the titular corrupted hobbit, Gollum. This isn’t the first timeRhys-Davies has been asked about returning forHunt for Gollum. In November last year, the actor was posed the same question, although his answer then was slightly less optimistic. Rhys-Davies expressed his love for Andy Serkis, but said that the extensive prosthetics work and Gimli’s heavy costume might prove too much for him 20 years after the original trilogy ended. Rhys-Davies said:

“But out of deference to Andy, whom I love and admire and, again, who has grown so much, if they invited me…oh god could I dare to put on that make-up again and lose my skin? Maybe with CGI.”
What Is ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ About?
As obvious as the film’s plot might be from its title, there is still a lot ofmystery surroundingThe Hunt for Gollum. We have the ‘what,’ but the film’s plot is still missing the who, when, where, and (most importantly) why. The plot hasn’t officially been released yet. But when it was announced that McKellen and Mortensen had officially signed on to the project, rumors began spreading about their mission to find Gollum.
Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollumis reportedly set just beforeThe Fellowship of the Ring. In the film, Gandalf the Grey and Aragorn are hunting for the titular slave to the Ring of Power. However, this hasn’t officially been confirmed. If John Rhys-Davies, Orlando Bloom, or any more ofThe Fellowship of the Ring’s cast officially sign on to the movie, it would cement the film’s status as an unofficialFellowshipprequel.

At the time of writing, McKellen, Mortensen, and Serkis are the only originalLord of the Ringsstars confirmed to return forThe Hunt for Gollum. The film is still in the development stage, and a shooting date has not yet been announced.
