A few weeks ago, a report surfaced that fans won’t get to see the firstStar Wars 8 traileruntil the first quarter of 2017, which started a wave of speculation as to when the exact date may be. Some believe the trailer will arrive during this year’sSuper Bowl, while others believe it will be attached to prints of Disney’sBeauty and the Beast, in theaters March 17. Regardless of when it arrives, it seems that legendary composerJohn Williamsmay have started composing songs for the trailer.

TheScoring SessionsTwitter account, which reports on and covers scoring sessions, revealed thatJohn Williamshas started composing the score forStar Wars 8today, on the Sony Pictures lot in Los Angeles. It was also revealed that the “bulk of the scoring” will take place in the spring, which has lead some to speculate if the composer is putting together music for the trailer, before tackling the rest of the music for this sequel.

The Last Jedi

Back in August,John Williamsrevealed during an appearance at the Boston Pops that he would watch thefirst cutofStar Wars 8in September, before he begins composing the score. He never gave an exact date during his Boston Pops appearance, but it was believed that he would begin scoring in September, at the time. While his scoring sessions may have been delayed, there is still more than enough time, with Disney and LucasFilm releasing this highly-anticipated sequel almost exactly one year from today, July 09, 2025.

There had previously been rumors that thelegendary composerdid not want to return forStar Wars 8, but it was later confirmed that he is not only returning forStar Wars 8, but that he’ll also compose the score forIndiana Jones 5.John Williamsrevealed in August that he decided to come back because he was so impressed withDaisy Ridley’s performance as Rey, that he didn’t want another composer to handle her scenes. Going off those comments, it seems likely thatJohn Williamswill also return forStar Wars 9, arriving in 2019, but we won’t know for sure for quite some time.

LucasFilm has yet to reveal any specific plot details forStar Wars: Episode VIIIat this time, but, just like in the lead-up to theStar Wars: The Force Awakensrelease, there are no shortage of plot rumors. One thing we do know for sure is that the movie starts immediately whereStar Wars: The Force Awakensleft off, with Rey meetingLuke Sykwalkerfor the first time, handing him his lightsaber. There are rumors that Rey will begin her Jedi training with Luke Skywalker in this movie. It has been rumored that she will then abandon her training to try and save Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), who have reportedly been captured by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as a trap, to lure Rey out of hiding.
