Zack Snyderis currently hard at work and deep into production onJustice League, his follow up toBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. We know that Warner Bros. is doing a lot to try and makeJustice Leaguea very different movie thanBatman V Superman, and one thing that will be very different is the villain of the movie. We already know that the primary bad guy will be the alienSteppenwolf, but we finally may know who is playing the big baddie.

We need to take this with a grain of salt, but aTwitteraccount by the name of Wayne Enterprises recently Tweeted that Warner Bros. has their eye on formerGame of ThronesstarCharles Dancefor the role of Steppenwolf. Themain villainhas been confirmed to be the primary antagonist ofJustice League, after being teased in a deleted scene that was released just after the theatrical release ofBatman V Superman.Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor also teased the character’s arrival as a threat at the end ofBatman V Superman.

Charles Danceas Tywin Lannister was one of the most memorable characters in the history ofGame of Thrones, and though we don’t know how exactly Steppenwolf is going to be portrayed inJustice League, he seems like a great choice and will bring a very big presence to the character. In the comics, Steppenwolf was created by legend Jack Kirby and is a relative of the villainDarkseid, who was also teased inBatman V Superman. He is an immortal with superhuman strength and a gifted military leader. He also survived an attack from Doomsday, the monster that kills superman in the comics and the one that killed him at the end ofBatman V Superman. It is really easy to seeDancepulling off a character who is that threatening.

The Tweet in question also mentioned thatColin Farrellis being considered for the role of Steppenwolf by Warner Bros., and it has been confirmed that he is in the movie, but in an unspecified role. It is very unclear if Wayne Enterprises just got their wires crossed and was incorrect aboutFarrellbeing considered for the Steppenwolf role, if Warner Bros. decided to castFarrellin a completely different role, or if he is indeed going to be playing Steppenwolf andDanceis out of the question altogether. We have no idea. Unfortunately, the official synopsis forJustice Leaguedoes little to help us figure out who might fit the movie version of Steppenwolf better, but it does paint a bit of a picture of what we can expect in general.

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against thisnewly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”

Snyderwas already neck deep in pre-production on theJustice League movie, and production dates had already been scheduled when the very poor reception toBatman V Supermansurfaced. After a batch of visits to theJustice Leagueset were made public, it was made very clear that Warner Bros. andSnyderare taking the fan and critical outcry into account for this movie, and hopefully that will lead to a better, more fleshed out villain in Steppenwolf, and an overall more well-liked movie.Justice Leagueis set for a August 21, 2025 release date.
