Suicide Squaddidn’t exactly feature a whole lot ofJared Leto’s new version of The Joker, which he has publicly voiced his displeasure with. Those of us who liked his take on the character were looking forward to the possibility of him showing up inZack Snyder’sJustice League, as there have been very present rumors stating that might be the case. Well, now those rumors appear to have been debunked and we are going to have to wait even longer to see more ofThe Jokerin the DC Extended Universe.
On Monday there was a rumor floating around the web that indicatedJared Letowas set to reprise his role as the Clown Prince of Crime sooner rather than later, which had many DC fanboys and fangirls quite excited. Well, film reporterUmberto Gonzaleztook to hisTwitteraccount to dash those hopes and debunk the rumor. Here is what he had to say.
“Sorry DC fanboys. Yesterday’s rumor that surfaced about Jared Leto being in JUSTICE LEAGUE? Unfortunately, not true. #DEADED”
There had been speculation thatJustice Leaguewould be a good place for The Joker to show up again before eventually squaring off withBen Affleck’s Batman elsewhere in the DCEU. But rumors heated up on Monday when a report surfaced confirming thatJustice Leaguewould be shooting in Iceland, stating thatJared Letowas expected to be in the movie. That is apparently not the case, but none of this is official word from Warner Bros. or anyone directly involved in the production, so anything is still possible. Just don’t get your hopes up, Joker fans.
The next logical place forJared Letoto reprise his role as The Joker would be inBen Affleck’s soloBatmanmovie, which he is set to direct and star in.Joe Manganiellohas already been confirmed to be playing Deathstroke in the movie and he will be the main villain, but that still leaves plenty of room for The Joker to show up somewhere. There has been a lot of buzz stating that the movie could take place in Arkham Asylum and will feature a lot of Batman’s rogues gallery of villains. If that turns out to be true, it would make total sense for The Joker to be there. Maybe an uneasy Deathstroke and Joker team up with some potential backstabbing?
The fact of the matter is thatJustice Leagueis already anover-crowdedmovie and after what happened withBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it wouldn’t be a good idea to muddy things up with more characters if they don’t need to be there. Given the plot ofJustice Leagueand what we know about it so far, it definitely seems like The Joker would be shoehorned in a bit. Here is the official synopsis forJustice League.
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act,Bruce Wayneenlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
Suicide Squad has grossed more than $700 million at the box office so far despite poor reviews, so it is all but guaranteed thatJared Letowill reprise his role as The Joker at some point, it just probably won’t be for a little while.Justice LeaguestarsBen Affleckas Batman,Gal Gadotas Wonder Woman,Ezra Milleras The Flash,Jason Momoaas Aquaman andRay Fisheras Cyborg.Zack Snyderis directing from a script byChris Terrio.Justice Leagueis set to hit theaters on June 28, 2025.
