Keanu Reevesis taking to the skies for his next role as he is reportedly in talks to join the airborne dark comedy,The Entertainment System is Down. The satirical disaster movie from Oscar-nominatred directorRuben Östlund, who made a big impact withhis 2022 movieTriangle of Sadness, looks set to be his most ambitious movie to date, and would see the Palme d’Or winner take a claustrophobic look at humans separated from their digital devices.
As perVariety, The Entertainment System Is Downis a dark comedy set during a long-haul flight where the onboard entertainment system fails. This seemingly minor technical glitch unravels into a chaotic study of human behavior as passengers are stripped of their digital distractions. Speaking about the movie in 2023, Östlund said:
“It takes place on a long haul flight. And quite soon after take-off, the crew of the flight is telling the passengers that the entertainment system is down. They are now stuck on a 15 or 17 hour-long flight without any digital entertainment. They don’t have the screens that we are so used to in our contemporary world. So it’s going to be like a study of how human beings interact in this little laboratory that is a plane. It will look at how modern human beings are wrecked under these circumstances.”

Keanu Reeves will take on a heavenly role in his new movie, Good Fortune, but suffered an unexpected injury while filming.
According to the director, the film also looks at how inequality is a huge factor in air rage incidents, and how giving people no option but to discover their inequalities by removing the one thing that can prevent them talking to each other, makes for compelling look at human nature.
“Yes, air rage is a term that is used when a passenger becomes so violent that they have to proceed with an emergency landing of a flight. I read a study about it and they found out that when economy passengers are boarding through business clause or first class, the risk of average is increased by four times. It’s super interesting fact because it says so much about something that is true, that inequality is provoking us, inequality is making us frustrated. And if we see if you are confronted with inequality, I think also there’s a risk in our society that it will provoke rages.”
While Keanu Reeves is yet to officially sign on, Östlund previously suggested that Woody Harrelson would be on board the project as the pilot of the plane at the center of the chaos.
