Kelly Rowlandis set to star inNetflix’sMea Culpa.Deadlinereports that the film will be written, directed and produced byTyler Perry. The Grammy and Billboard Music Award winner will be leading the ensemble cast that also includes Trevante Rhodes, Sean Sagar, Nick Sagar and Ron Reaco Lee.
Rowland has had her fair share of appearances on screen. She debuted on the big screen in 2002 through Ronny Yu’s slasher filmFreddy vs. Jason. She has since starred in several films such asThink Like a Man, The Seat Filler, Black is King, Bad Hairand a lot more. Tyler Perry has also been making his mark in the industry after he created and performed the elderly woman named Madea. The billionaire producer debuted Madea as a character through the seriesDiary of a Mad Black Woman, which he wrote, produced and acted on. The prolific filmmaker has since created a long list of contributions to the film and TV industry.
Mea Culpa will mark as the first collaboration between musician Kelly Rowland and multimedia mogul Tyler Perry. Rowland will also be co-producing the drama as Perry produces the film through Tyler Perry Studios along with president Angi Bones and Will Areu. The cast and crew are set to begin filming this spring.

Mea Culpais the fifth project Perry will be working on as part of his deal with Netflix. He has previously directed Netflix’s 2020 FilmA Fall From Grace, the grand return of Madea on the screen throughA Madea Homecoming, a period dramaA Jazzman’s Bluesand the upcoming drama seriesSix Triple Eightwhich is now in production. Aside from his Netflix contract, Perry has also signed a four-picture deal with Amazon Studios with WME and Johnson Shapiro. He is set to write, direct and produce four features that will be released through Prime Video.
Mea Culpais a legal drama that tells the tale of a criminal defense attorney who’s looking to handle a major case that would help define her career. She wanted to land a case big enough to make her a partner at her firm. With her determination to win a big case, she landed a case where she’s tasked to defend a shady artist, who’s a potential murderer. She has to defend the artist who has been accused of killing his girlfriend. This has made her dream of securing her partnership difficult as the case is a complicated one.
