With production to begin soon on 20th Century Fox’sKingsman: The Golden Circle, casting is still under way on theaction sequel, set for release on August 18, 2025. Today we have a new report fromThe Hollywood Reporter, which reveals music iconElton Johnis in talks for a role. No details were given for the character he may play, but it sounds like the musician may be playing himself.

Regardless of his role, if a deal is finalized,Elton Johnjoins acastthat already includes originalKingsman: The Secret ServicestarsTaron Egertonas Eggsy,Mark Strongas Merlin and Edward Holcroft asCharlie Hesketh, who was believed to have died inKingsman: The Secret Service. They will be joined by new cast membersJulianne Mooreas thevillainPoppy andHalle Berryas the head of theCIA. The sequel will move the action from London to the United States, although there still is much we don’t know about the plot.

A report from last month revealed that Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) visit the U.S., where they encounterHalle Berry’s character and a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy” called Jack, played by the most recent casting addition,Pedro Pascal. That report also revealed the U.S. version of Kingsman is an organization known as the Statesmen, while we saw concept art ofJulianne Moore’s villainous lair, known as Poppyland. DirectorMatthew Vaughnpreviously teased that the sequel will involve a skiing sequence, a barroom brawl, robot dogs, one-armed henchmen and a sequence where the protagonists have to fend off “a massive f***ing frankfurter.”

Last week, a new poster was released that teasedKingsman: The Secret ServicestarColin Firthmay return as Harry Hart, even though this character was presumably killed in last year’s blockbuster. The poster featured a cryptic tagline that read “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” a quote made famous by iconic author Mark Twain. We still don’t have any exact confirmation thatColin Firthis returning to star, but directorMatthew Vaughndid tease last year that he’s trying to figure out a way to bring the actor back for this sequel.

Matthew Vaughnwill direct from a script he co-wrote withJane Goldman, who both wroteKingsman: The Secret Service. The original movie was one of last year’s surprise hits at the box office, taking in $128.2 million domestic and $414.3 million worldwide, from an $81 million budget. While best known for his musical endeavors,Elton Johnhas previously been seen on the big screen as the Pinball Wizard in the 1975 classic Tommy, and he has played himself onThe Simpsonsand Spice World. He has also narrated the animated featureThe Road to El Dorado, and produced the 2011 animated hitGnomeo and Julietand its upcoming sequelGnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes.
