While he’s best known for his work in the wrestling ring as a WWE Superstar,John Cenahas started to come into his own as an actor, starring in three comedies last year,Trainwreck,SistersandDaddy’s Home.Mark Millar, whose comic book creations includeKick-AssandKingsman: The Secret Service, took to Twitter to reveal that he recently watchedTrainwreck, and was so impressed withJohn Cena’s work he just “requested him” for his upcoming adaptationSuperior, which has been in the works for quite some time. It seems this superhero request may actually pay off as well.
Mark Millarsent out his first message praisingJohn CenaonTwitterthis past Saturday. This resulted in several fans praising this potential casting in return, since the wrestler/actor bears a resemblance to the comic book superhero. Here’s whatMark Millarhad to say on Twitter this past Saturday.
“Just watched @amyschumer’sTrainwreck& it’s my fave comedy in YEARS. @JohnCena so funny in it I literally just requested him forSuperior.”
TheSuperioradaptation has been in the works for several years, with our first report coming back in 2011, when the project was being developed alongside anothercomic book adaptation,Kingsman: The Secret Service. We reported in April 2014 that the project was moving forward at 20th Century Fox, with an unknown writer developing the script, andMatthew Vaughnset to produce. Earlier today,Matthew Vaughntook to Twitter to reveal that not only will a new script draft ofSuperiorbe delivered this week, but a director has been lined up, andJohn Cenamay in fact be interested in the role.
“New draft forSuperior scriptthis week,Matthewproducing & a perfect director lined up. Thanks for the follow, @JohnCena. Let’s do this!”
WhileJohn CenafollowingMark Millaron Twitter certainly isn’t an iron-clad confirmation that he will star inSuperior, it may indicate that he is at least interested in the role. The story centers on a 12-year-old boy suffering from multiple sclerosis, who makes a wish to become apowerful superherothat is surprisingly granted. With a script and a director reportedly in place, we may hear an official announcement regardingSuperiorin the near future. Until then, take a look atMark Millar’s tweets below.
