We Might’ve Gotten Liam Neeson’s 10-Year-Old Action Thriller All Wrong
Liam Neeson’s ‘Run All Night’ just hit free streaming, and it may deserve a reappraisal 10 years later.
Just like many Neeson movies of the last decade,Absolutionis all about an old guy fighting other guys in the middle of a story about redemption/revenge (delete as appropriate). The synopsis ofAbsolutionreads:

“An aging gangster attempts to reconnect with his children and rectify the mistakes in his past, but the criminal underworld won’t loosen their grip willingly.”
When it was released last year,Absolutiongained only a 55% Tomatometer score from critics, and a much more decisively low 32% from audiences. The film also made an almost non-existent appearance in cinemas, taking just $4.2 million during its run, but like many such action films, it proved to be much more popular among audiences when it was subsequently released on streaming.

Liam Neeson Continues to Deliver Action Roles Despite “Retirement” Talk
Over 20 years ago, Liam Neeson made an incredibly unexpected career pivot when he starred inTaken, and left behind his romantic comedy roles for something a little darker. Although he has still dipped into other genres, Neeson’s name has become synonymous with some brutal action films, but nothing lasts forever, and the actor has hinted recently thathis time as the hero of the hour may be coming to an end soon.
Now in his 70s, Neeson is at an age where he feels the believability of his characters may become stretched if he continues much longer. Despite that, he currently shows little sign of slowing down and will appear later this month in a sequel toThe Ice Road, and even his upcomingNaked Gunreboot/sequel leans more into his action roles than Leslie Nielsen’s original movies ever did.

In total, Neeson has around 10 projects in various stages of production, includingCold Storage, an action comedy byJurassic Parkscreenwriter David Koepp and co-starringStranger Things’Joe Keery, sequelRun All Night 2, and the TV thriller seriesMemory of a Killerwith Patrick Dempsey. Perhaps those thoughts of retirement have not quite been taken too seriously just yet after all.
