Fans have eagerly awaited aFreaky Fridaysequel, and now we’re that much closer.Freakier Fridaywill see a lot of familiar faces return, including stars Jamie Lee Curtis,Lindsay Lohan, andChad Michael Murray. Before we see them back as Anna and Jake, however, Lohan and Murray will appear in holiday features for Netflix. While speaking withColliderwhile promoting those upcoming projects - Lohan forOur Little Secretand Murray forThe Merry Gentlemen- both actors expressed excitement aboutFreakier Friday, hinting at a fun-filled follow-up film.
For Lohan, who starred in several Disney films includingFreaky Friday, The Parent Trap, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, andHerbie: Fully Loaded,returning to Walt Disney Studios forFreakier Fridayproved to be a nostalgic and fun experience:
“Going back to working with Disney, it’s such a machine, Disney, that in this weird way, I stepped on a lot, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I feel like I’m 10 years old again.’ It was just wild for me, and beautiful, and such a great experience. We had so much fun. I’m so, so excited about the movie. I’m just so excited to share it with people. It’s really beautiful. It’s really fun.”
Murray, whose motorcycle riding Jake served as Anna’s love interest in the original 2003 film, also mentioned how fun the experience had been, noting that it “didn’t feel like work at all:”
“The film has just stood the test of time, and it’s grown, and their performances, from Jamie Lee [Curtis] and Lindsay [Lohan], were so epic that I think everyone really wants to revisit that. Everybody wants to go back to that time and just enjoy the freedom that this movie gave everybody. They had a great script, they had a great team behind it. It was a no-brainer. With Jamie propelling this thing forward and pushing it uphill and Lindsay saying, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna come back and crush it,’ it was a no-brainer for everybody, and it was awesome. So much fun. It didn’t feel like work at all. Not even.”
What Can We Expect from Freakier Friday?
Walt Disney Studios’Freaky Fridaypremiered in 2003, and was a commercial and critical success: the film earned over $160 million at the box office, and Lohan and Curtis garnered acclaim for their performances as body-swapping daughter and mother duo Anna and Tess Coleman (Curtis also earned a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy). In 2022, nearly 20 years after the original landed in theaters, Curtis began to publicly push for aFreaky Fridayfollow-up. According to Lohan, she and Curtis had long discussed reuniting on-screen for the feature, so the project has been a long time coming:
“Well, Jamie Lee Curtis and I were very close, so we’ve been talking about it for a long time. For a few years, we’ve been talking about it. Then she was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to pull the trigger on this,’ and really started pushing for it. So when I was filming ‘IrishWish’in Ireland was when she had the meeting, and she was like, ‘Okay, they’re in.'”
Freaky Friday Stars Tease Manny Jacinto’s Role in the Sequel

The sequel is directed by Nisha Ganatra, with Mark Harmon, Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons starring alongside Curtis, Lohan, and Murray.
