While there has continued to be split opinions over Kevin Smith’sMasters of the Universe: Revelation, with die-hard fans either loving the return of the muscle man of Eternia or loathing what Kevin Smith has done during the first season of the series, but one thing that is not up for discussion is that despite being seen as “the guy who plays Luke Skywalker”, Luke Hamill continues to show that he is also one of the most prolific voice actors of his generation. Taking over the role of Skeletor in theMasters of the Universereboot from original voice actor Alan Oppenheimer, who brought the original Skeletor to life in the 1983 animated show, a new behind the scenes video released by Netflix has shown Hamill in his element in the recording sessions for the show.

Of course Skeletor has also been portrayed by Frank Langella in theMasters of the Universelive-action movie, who did battle against Dolph Lundgren’s He-Man, and Campbell Lane and Brian Dobson in other animated iterations of the iconic villain, but as with all of his voice roles, Hamill brings a menacing glee to the role, and that comes across even more when watching him perform the part alongside Lena Heady who takes over the voice of Evil Lynn in the updated show. You can see the pair in action below.

The series starsMark Hamill(Skeletor), Lena Heady (Evil-Lyn), Chris Wood(Prince Adam), and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela. In addition to the stacked cast of the first half of the season, new additions include Method Man (Clamp Champ), Dee Bradley Baker (Savage He-Man), and Danny Trejo (Ramm Man) who make their debut in Part 2.

Kevin Smith was torn down by fanswhen the series originally aired for pretty much discarding both He-Man and Skeletor after just one episode, and instead making Teela the protagonist of the series as she attempted to save He-Man from his fate. While there were a few who were happy with the continuation of the story that played out forty years ago, with similar character traits intact and the animation, though obviously updated, still not too brutalized from the original series, but for others, the decision to make Teela the focus of the series was just more than they were willing to accept.

Despite the backlash, Smith didn’t seem to have too much issue with the criticism. In an interview withVariety, he said, “I see people online go, ‘Hey man, they’re getting rid of He-Man! Like, you really ****ing think Mattel Televisions, who hired me and paid me money, wants to do a ****ingMasters of the Universeshow without He-Man? Grow the ***up man. Like, that blew my mind, bunch of people being like, ‘Oh, I smell it. This is a bait and switch.'”

It seems that Smith is certainly hoping for another round of the show considering the open end of thissecond run of episodesand a link into an even more expanded second season. You can watchMasters of the Universe: Revelationon Netflix.
