Deadpool & Wolverine
A follow-up to the highly successful Deadpool and Deadpool 2 films starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. The third film will be the first in the franchise to be developed under the Marvel Studios banner following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
Stuck in “The Void,“Deadpool and Wolverine find unexpected alliesin Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Dafne Keen’s Laura/X-23, and, most surprisingly, Wesley Snipes' Blade. Fans were expecting several cameos inDeadpool & Wolverine, but no one really expected Snipes to return as the Daywalker afterBlade: Trinity(which also starred Ryan Reynolds). Now, speaking toEntertainment Weeklyat San Diego Comic Con 2024,Snipes revealed that even he didn’t think he’d ever return to play the character. That was until he got a call from Ryan Reynolds. Having hung up the swords and the fangs, Snipes was unprepared for what Ryan Reynolds would ask:

“I did not think it was possible. I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it — also because they had Mahershala cast for the next upcoming version of it. I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about. He told me the idea… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.”
Wesley Snipes Says He ‘Wasn’t Blade Ready’
Every Marvel Studios movie isfamously shrouded in secrecy. With drones, paparazzi, and overly-eager film fans lurking around every corner of a movie set, the cast and crew have to do everything they can to keep a film’s big reveal a secret. Somehow, Snipes managed to keep his cameo under wraps right up until the premiere. The Blade star was so protective over the surprise, he even kept it a secret from his own family.
MCU Fans Want More of Popular Actor After Super Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo
Do you want to see this fan-favorite actor take over as Wolverine in the MCU?
Secrecy wasn’t the only challenge facing Snipes’ return to play Blade, however. The actor,a lifelong martial artist, found it difficult to get back in shape to wear Blade’s iconic leather armor and trench coat. Before shooting began, Snipes spent a month getting in fighting shape to play the Daywalker one last time on the big screen. Snipes said:

“I wasn’t Blade ready, man. I don’t walk around as Blade every day, you know what I mean? With a trench coat and shades and fangs in my mouth. We had to work out. We definitely had to get the body, and my biggest concern was being in condition enough to deal with whatever the action was. About a month into it, I got the body right… and then, with the help of a little customized foam well placed in certain areas, it was all good to go, baby.”
Deadpool & Wolverineis currently screening in theaters.
