Ever since the release ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been curious if the finale of that movie was really the end ofWanda Maximoff / The Scarlet Witch, or if she would return to the MCU. The assumption seemed to be that any news about the Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU would have to wait untilAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars, but Marvel Comics might have given away the plan.

At the end of theDoctor Strangesequel, Wanda stayed behind to destroy Mount Wundagore, which collapsed on top of her, but as anyone who reads superhero comics knows, death is easy to come back from. In Marvel’sTVA#3, published on Aug 17, 2025 (via SlashFilm), Spider-Gwen passes what appears to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the Scarlet Witch in some sort of stasis chamber in the TVA headquarters. Theoretically, this could be any Scarlet Witch, but the costume’s design closely resembles that of her MCU counterpart. TheTVAseries follows the Time Variance Authority, the organization featured inLokiandDeadpool & Wolverine. The canonical status of the comics in the MCU is currently unclear, as they take place within the multiverse, so we’re not 100% that this is the same Scarlet Witch.

Kevin Feige Seems to Confirm What We Already Guessed About Scarlet Witch’s MCU Future

A new comment from Kevin Feige about Elizabeth Olsen’s potential Scarlet Witch future seems to suggest she will return.

Even though the comic depiction of the Scarlet Witch looks like the MCU version, it feels unlikely that Marvel Studios would let Marvel Comics include a vital plot point in a book that most viewers probably aren’t aware of. The widely mocked decision to have thePalpatine message fromStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerexclusively heard inFortnitemight have deterred Disney from any similar, big cross-platform media tie-ins. Yet Marvel’s comics and films have a tricky connection, and TVA’s previous MCU appearance inDeadpool & Wolverinemight shed some light on this comic’s MCU connection.

Deadpool & WolverineMight Have Set a Precedence for TVA Canon

The canon status of theTVAseriesin the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nebulous. Marvel has published tie-in comics that are part of the MCU continuity, notably the comicFury’s Big Week, which chronicled the events ofIron Man 2,Thor, andThe Incredible Hulk, all from Nick Fury’s point of view. However, that comic’s continuity status is up in the air as it featured Black Widow capturing Samuel Sterns / The Leader after the events ofThe Incredible Hulk, none of which is referenced or lines up withwhat we learn about The Leader in the recently releasedCaptain America: Brave New World. That said, theTVAcomics are part of the main Marvel Comics universe, interacting with those stories as opposed to the feature films or Disney+ series.

The actual Marvel Comics and their relationship to the cinematic universe they inspired are even trickier to unpack.Spider-Verse #2from 2015 references Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man as looking"like the guy fromSeabiscuit,“and a Spider-Variant refers to Andrew Garfield’s Spidey with,“I think I saw the guy fromThe Social Networkover there.“Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men were later transported from their universes to the MCU inSpider-Man: No Way Home, providing some link between the comics and the live-action franchise multiverse. This means that theTVAseries is connected to the proper MCU, even if that connection is a little wobbly.

If the Scarlet Witch does appear in a future MCU title, it’s possible she could be detained at the TVA’s headquarters, and perhaps there will be a brief nod to the comics. The biggest hint that this might be somewhat tied into the MCU’s plans isDeadpool & Wolverine. That multiverse film featured the stone carving of the Scarlet Witch on Mount Wundagore in the lair of the past Marvel heroes residing in the Void. With the Void being where the TVA organization puts characters and things they don’t want, it is possible they saved Scarlet Witch for a later purpose, which would make the carving inDeadpool & Wolverinea little Easter eggthat hints at a bigger MCU plan.
