The Batman Part IIhas been making headlines as of late due to its slow development cycle, but now the studio has revealed a major shift in its release schedule. As DC Studios co-headJames Gunn alluded to recently,The Batmansequel script has yet to be completed by Matt Reeves and co. While it seems the upcoming film is still well on its way, fans will have to wait significantly longer than originally anticipated to see Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader save Gotham inThe Batman Part II.

Shortly after the Christmas holiday, Warner Bros. moved several films on its release schedule (viaDeadline), most prominently includingThe Batman Part II. The Reeves-directed sequel was originally set to hit theaters on Aug 14, 2025, but will now premiere a year later onOct. 1, 2027. Deadline reports that the “VFX-heavy” film heads into production during the summer and, coincidentally enough, WB already eyed a DC movie release for October 2027 before delayingThe Batmanfollow-up. Meanwhile, moving intoThe Batman 2’s original spot is theuntitled Tom Cruise filmfromBirdmandirector Alejandro González Iñárritu, whileMickey 17shifts its premiere date once again to March 7, andRyan Coogler’sSinnersmoves to April 18.

Robert Pattinson as Batman in The Batman edited

The latest news onThe Batman Part IIis not too shocking to eagle-eyed fans of the property. As reports began to ramp up on itsalleged production schedule, it seems the long-awaited sequel would finally be ready for production next year. However, that timeframe seemed to put the original 2026 release date in jeopardy, especially since Reeves was still ironing out the script. Alas, where there is smoke there is fire, and WB has made the move to delayThe Batman Part IIan entire year. That marks a five-year gap between the first film and its sequel, making Pattinson’s role as the Dark Knight a lengthy endeavor into creeping into his early 40s.

‘The Batman Part II’ is Not the Only Batman Movie Facing Delays

If it’s any consolation,The Batman Part IIis not only the film featuring the Caped Crusader that has been delayed. The Brave and the Bold, which is set in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe, just gota disappointing production updatefrom its director, Andy Muschietti. While the Batman and Robin-focused venture never got an official release date, its development has been delayed and may come after Muschietti directs another project. Gunn has been adamant that no film will be greenlit by DC Studios unless it has a completed script, and that seems to be the case forThe Brave and the Bold.

James Gunn Contemplated Putting Matt Reeves' ‘The Batman’ Into the DCU

Yes, there have been talks of ‘The Batman’ joining the DCU.

Of course, there does not seem to be any correlation between the delays ofThe Batman Part IIandThe Brave and the Bold. The former is a separate, Elseworlds story, whileThe Brave and the Boldis directly connected to an overarching cinematic universe full of other superheroes, which is beingkicked off bySuperman. And while some fans have been wanting Pattinson’s version of Batman in the DCU after the electricSupermantrailer, that crossover does not seem to be in the cards.
