How Jamie Lee Curtis Got ‘The Lost Bus’ Made

The Lost Bushas a star-studded cast and crew, but few names are as surprising as Jamie Lee Curtis. TheFreakier Fridaystaris a producer on the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller, and played a direct role in getting the film made alongside Blumhouse’s Jason Blum. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Curtis revealed that she discovered the story of the bus driver while reading aWashington Postarticle by Lizzie Johnson. “I was alone in a cabin in the woods, and I remember saying out loud to myself, ‘Well, that’s the movie,’” Curtis revealed.

Curtis then recalled when she pulled over to the side of the road while driving and emailed Blum, determined to buy the rights and make a movie out of it. “I believe it’s going to be the most important thing you and I ever do together,” Curtis pitched to Blum. It does not seem like it took long for Paul Greengrass to get on board, but as Curtis noted, the film had to focus on a singular story from Johnson’sParadise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. From there, they landed on Matthew McConaughey, who Greengrass praised as the perfect actor for the job.

“What I like about Matthew particularly is he’s a leading man, a movie star, and a character actor all in one. And he has a particular understanding of those kinds of communities, blue-collar communities.”
