Jason Stathamis shooting up the Freevee Top 10 withMechanic: Resurrection. Like every movie of the British action star’s career, the sequel’s appearance on free streaming has proven to be another huge win for those wanting to check out his brand of incredibly popular – but heavily criticized – brand of no-nonsense action.
The 2016 movie follows up on Statham’s 2011 remake of the Charles Branson movieThe Mechanic. In the film, Statham returns as Arthur Bishop, a retired assassin who is forced back into the dangerous world he left behind when his girlfriend is abducted by his arch-nemesis. This sets him on a race around the world to complete a series of assassinations, and, as expected, the action ramps up very quickly, and becomes more unbelievable with every step, as Bishop gets deeper into his mission.

NowMechanic: Resurrectionis discovering a new audience and continuing to defy those critics that just really don’t seem to understand that sometimes you just need excessive violence, and blink-and-you-miss-it plot. Plenty of brooding looks from a big, bald Brit doesn’t hurt either. The film currently holds a 31% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a consensus that the action is “forgettable,” and “even Statham looks a little bored” by the proceedings. For a change, audiences seem to mostly agree, just don’t expect to find many of them dissing The Stath even if they were not completely engaged by the film.
Jason Statham Can Do No Wrong
One thing that has been proven time and time again is that certain actors have the ability to turn a terrible script into a box office success. This was true withMechanic: Resurrection, whichconverted a $40 million budget into a $125 million gross– almost double that taken byThe Mechanicin 2011. However, Statham has managed to carve himself the kind of action movie niche that has been previously occupied by the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Bruce Willis, where the quality isn’t always an important factor for audiences.
There is a lot of love out there for Statham’s movies, and he always has a new project on the horizon.Earlier this year he scored big with The Beekeepermanaged to deliver a film that satisfied both critics and audiences, as well as providing him with a big box office win followed by an even bigger success on streaming. There has been no official word yet on a sequel to that movie, but there are some big franchises that could provide Statham with future hits – includingThe ExpendablesandFast & Furious.

Jason Statham’s First Movie Is Still His Best
Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels introduced Jason Statham to cinema with a bang back in 1998.
However, there are many of Statham’s older movies constantly being added to various streaming platforms, where they are being discovered by new fans looking for a bit of action to get them through the day. It seems that Statham’s appeal is currently at a peak, although it also shows no sign of abating any time soon.As well asMechanic: Resurrection, fans of Arthur Bishop can find his first outing inThe Mechanicstreaming now on Netflix.
