Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers for the Season Finale of MobLand
Season 1 ofMobLandcame to an epic conclusion yesterday on Paramount+, leaving many to question the fate ofTom Hardy’s character of Harry Da Souza. After neglecting his home life for the better part of the show’s 10 episodes, Harry tried to make things right with his wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt), who was having none of it. After an explosive outburst, she accidentallystabbed her husband in the chest, and while he at first tried to play it off as no big deal, Harry had to take a seat at the end of the scene. With the knife still firmly implanted in him, we’re now left to wonder: Is the wound fatal?

Speaking with the New York Post, writer and producer Jez Butterworth dished on that surprising twist, assuring fans that no, Hardy’s character isn’t dead. After all, he’s one of the show’s main stars, and part of what drew audiences to the Ronan Bennett creation in the first place. They’re not just going to kill him off after the first season:
“I mean, if you think about it, ‘Is Harry dead?’ No. We’re not gonna – We love Harry. We love Tom.”

‘MobLand’ Fans Should Head to Netflix for Their Next British Crime Thriller Binge
‘MobLand’ opens the door to London’s criminal underbelly, but ‘Gangs of London’ blows the door right off.
“It felt satisfyingly dramatic that having walked through fire for 10 episodes, what happens at the end is the one thing he’s not expecting,” added Butterworth, explaining that the unexpected moment was as much Jan’s as it was Harry’s. A wife can only take so much, right? As Butterworth puts it:

“I think in all relationships, the things that we like at first gradually drive you crazy…[Harry] is too freewheelling. I think what you’re seeing here is just the attritional cost of dealing with this level of unpredictability, anxiety and stress.”
