Season 2 of Netflix’sAvatar: The Last Airbenderis introducing arguably the best character from the beloved Nickelodeon animated series to the live-action version. Toph Beifong will finally joinTeam Avatar in Season 2,played by Miya Cech (The Rim of the World). Toph was introduced in Season 2 of the original animated series, and quickly became one of Aang’s closest friends, as well as his earthbending teacher. Season 1 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation made some major deviations from the original series, but fans were hoping the show’s iteration of Toph would remain faithful. According to Miya Cech,her version of Toph is a lot like the animated version, with a few exceptions.

During an interview withPacific Rim Video Pressat the 2024 Unforgettable Gala, Cech revealed what her version of Toph will be like in live-action. According to the actress, Season 2 ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderwill make some adjustments from the animated series to fit the tone of the remake.“She’s a little bit older so she’s not a little kid anymore,“Cach said. However, Cech promised that fans of the original will instantly recognize and fall in love with Toph in the live-action series. She continued:

“She is still that same spitfire, spunky character who gets to call a certain character ‘Twinkle Toes.'”

Toph Beifong is Miya Cech’s Dream Role

Season 1 of Netflix’sAvatar: The Last Airbenderdivided the fan base. Some hated the new series for putting a darker spin on a Nickelodeon children’s classic, and foraltering some major storylines. However, many fans accepted the new series as a fresh take on the original show.Miya Cech promised there will be something for everyone with her version of Toph.She continued:

“I think there are going to be a lot of things that the fans are going to remember from the animated series anda lot of things that are brand new.”

Toph Beifong was notably absent from the maligned M. Night Shyamalan live-action movie (“there is no live-actionAvatarin Ba Sing Se,” says the entire fan base), and was expected to appear in the thankfully, canceled sequel. As a result, fans are ecstatic about finally getting to seeToph in live-action in Season 2 of Netflix’s show.But, it’s unlikely that anyone is as excited as Miya Cech herself. During the interview, Cech revealed that playing Toph Beifong is one of the dream roles of her career.

“I am so excited,” she began. “She was a character that- the first Asian character I saw on television, that I really saw myself in. I grew up with the show. And, it’s a role that I’ve been wanting to play since I was 10.”

Season 2 ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderis currently in production.Following the success of Season 1, Netflix confirmed that the show has been renewed for two more seasons.Avatar: The Last Airbenderwill end after its third season.Season 2 hasn’t been given an official release date yet.
